When CP5 launches its traffic updates I will be shelling out some shekels for the service. However, whilst I can pair my 2210 with my 6310i which is happily browsing the internet via GPRS I cannot get the 2210 to do the same. It keeps asking me for dial up numbers and such. As my Vodafone service just goes staright into service without appearing to dial anything why is teh 2210 asking me for a dial up service? Why can't I just use my existing GPRS as is through my 2210. Any advice would be useful as I guess other have done it before

Dave pointed out to me that CP5 will connect automatically when I select the LIVE function which is fine. So I guess this is not directly a GPS issue but if someone does know how to use my 2210 to access the net through my GPRS phone....I would be grateful. For general services all my 2210 manual says is about "dial up"

CP will only be able to connect after you have configured the 2210 to connect and browse web pages etc successfully via GPRS.

You need to set up GPSR on the 2210 using the following settings for Vodafone:

Bond the 6310 using the BT Wizard

Number: *99#
username/password: web/web
Baud Rate: 115200
Wait for dial tone: no
dial string: +cgdcont=1,"ip","internet"

HTH

I think I have done that. What does HTH mean?

Still nothing. My 2210 is paired with phone and I can get a good BT connection but using Internet Explorer it just sits there after typing in an address doing nothing. Eventually the phone times out the BT connect. The manuals are useless of course. Does the phone have to be in the GPRS home page to ensure GPRS is active for the 2210 to see it?

I appreciate your help here as this is so frustrating

HTH = Hope this helps

When you open a webpage on the 2210 does the 6310 give any indication of dialling a GPRS connection?

When you say you're 6310 is happily browsing the web via GPRS, how is it doing this? Are you referring to WAP pages? If so, you need to have GPRS Internet Access for the 2210 rather than GRPS WAP.

I've found the following post on Google which may be of assistance:

It keeps trying to dial *99# and connects and disconnects with the phone a couple of times then tells me "dial up networking - connection failed"

Perhaps a stupid question, but are you sure you have GPRS-Internet Service on your account?

Its a good, not stupid question. I'll need to check I guess with Vodafone first thing in the morning if I can't get through tonight.

In the mean time phone is set up and my settings on my 2210 are as follows

Number to Dial : *99#

User Name web

Password was set as web but of course appears as ********** in the password window now

Domain - None

Baud Rate 115200

No wait for dial tone

Extra dial string modem commannds: +cgdcont=1"ip","internet"

Many thanks again Darren, its interesting if nothing else and I'll get back as soon as I have some info on the service

It is a bit of a minefield I agree but there are plenty of resources we can plunder to get this working, let me know what Vodafone come back with?

Just make sure you have your phone setup according to this page and you should be good to go:-

Magic stuff.

Just been onto Voda, they do know there stuff (ish) and they confirm I have the full monty set up (Good old Sun Microsystems) However after trying ahard reset of the phone this is what happens. I tap 6310i dial up network icon, select the service dial up I have configured, *99~ appears and the phone connects to the 2210. So far so good.

However withing 5 seconds the phone disconnects and retries whichh lasts for 10 seconds before disconnecting from the 2210.

Speak to Voda again and they say they have just been told of a GPRS issue which has been ongoing all evening. Holy Smoke Batman!. They did say that as I was getting as far as dialling the setup should be OK but as the service is degraded I would get bounced and the phone WOLD disconnect from the 2210.

I'll try in the morning and let everyone know. This is good info here for the great unwashed who will be a growing group of peole trying to use their phones for PDA/Internet connection. Especially when we all have CP5 and want to use the Live service.

Post in the morning

doing this from my 2210. downloaded vodafone's connect mePPC. Nothing else worked. If I try to connect with that prpgram bybselecting bit I get a RAS error and the phone disconnedts like it did when set up manually

However if I just select Internet Explorer it seems to take straight to thr web, like this. Nothingb active in my BT manager but I appear to be browsing so I assume it runs in the backgroud. Appreciate the advice though I am puzzled why nothing else worked

Must improve my typing on the iPaq.......

Back on the PC now. It still makes no sense that after installing Connect Me PPC fron Voda I can browse the internet without any apparent connection with my mobile. No active devices in my PPC BT manager and no apparent activity on the phone. What the heck is a RAS error? I suspect that was what as happening when I tried to connect using the manual method. Or, when you set them all up. Just select your browser on the PPC and it automatically, invisibly connects?

I am waiting for Vodafone support to call me back as I am gonna get to the bottom of this if it kills me.

RAS is Remote Access Service, (or Server depending on which way you look at it). It's a service that's used for dial-up connections.
