Have TT2 with hp2210 and haicom receiver and all works well. am set up with POIs i need and the postcode add on is great. On the basis if it aint broke etc. am loath to mess about with upgrade to TT3, but am also worried that the map databases with TT2 must be getting a bit out of date.

Anyone got any advice or suggestions on whether I should or shouldnt?

Thanks. Will not change especially if you say that the databases are not a lot changed.

Thanks.

Alix,

If I did update to TT3 are there any known issues - I read about the 2210 problems. Are they resolved?

Would I need to re install the postcode and POI's?

Basically, I like to fiddle but am finding quite a lot of innaccuracies with the TT2 maps. No big deal but I suppose will get worse as roads are altered etc.

The only major issue with TTN3 is for users of BT GPS receivers who have maps stored on SD card, for some users this causes a problem.

If you have a mouse GPS or store maps on CF then it works without issue and IMHO you would be well advised to upgrade, you then get the new itinerary feature, access to the subscription traffic service and newer map data.

Thanks for that. Think I will do the deed!!!

One last thought - does the favourites file get transferred automatically or do I start again.

It 'should' get transferred in the upgrade but this has been known to fail.

Our advice is always that you should not use 'favourites' for anything other than 'Home' and possibly 'Work'. Save any other locations in a new POI Database i.e. 'family' or 'clients' etc. You can then easily and quickly copy and backup the family.ov2 or clients.ov2 file which will be created in the Map folder :D

Not heard that before as all my destinations etc are in the favourites file. can you point me somewhere so I can read about creating them as a POI database as this is new to me.

Thanks.

It's very straightforward:

1. Switch to map view
2. Locate the poistion you wish to save,
3. Tap'n'hold at that location
4. Select 'Add as point of interest'
5. Ensure <new type> is selected and then in the box directly below enter the name for your new POI group.
6. Edit the POI Name if required and select 'OK'

For subsequent POIs you would repeat steps 1 - 4 but at step 5 replace <new type>. with the POI group name you created at Step 5.

You can create as many seperate POI groups as you wish or have them all in the same file. If you look in your map folder after doing this you will see a POI_Group_name.ov2 file which you can copy as you wish. You can also create your own POI_Group_name.bmp file to have custom icons for each new POI group.

Darren, Have now created POI's as suggested which are great. Hadn't even noticed the feature!!! Confused

I appear to have a data file and a BMP for the icon (which I managed to change to something suitable thanks to you) but no setup file. All still works OK. was just curious why its not there.

Forget my previous re lost voice. My own stupidity. Again! Crying or Very sad

thanks again.

I didn't make reference to a setup file so I'm not sure what you mean?

You need only the .ov2 and .bmp file for each new POI group, when you create a new POI group a default .bmp icon is created which you can as you have discovered change to something more pertinent.

Sorry to hijack this thread, does anyone have a sort of catalogue of bitmap images that would be useful for POI?

cheers

Rich

Yeah sorry for the confusion, looking at other poi's on my ipaq there are the two files you mentioned and also an additional file with setup information. I just wandered what this was and why there isnt one associated with the new poi group I set up as you told me.

No big deal, just curious.

Best wishes.
