I am unable to get TomTom to run in demonstration mode. I keep getting the message
"Unable to start demonstration (2)" The figure 2 is on the end.
I have re-loaded TomTom twice and get the same results. Also Mrs TomTom doesn't sem to want to talk to me any more, although I have checked inside the program using Explorer and she is still there.
HELP as I'm going to use it to travel through France in 3 weeks. |

Hi,
You don't say what equipment you are using but this will happen if you use a GPS receiver other than Tomtom mouse such as a CF receiver and then remove it. Your GPS configuration will then default back to Tomtom Navigator GPS and be at Com3 and the box on the left unticked.
Having removed your receiver, you must select 'Serial Cable on COM1' and tick the box again to lock it.
This may not be your exact situation but should point you in the right direction hopefully.

Thanks Steve, I'm using Ipag 3950 and the antenna is the standard diamon one which came with the cradle etc. Also when I try to delete TomTom 3.03 in order to re-load, I get the message "Cannot delete file name: access is denied. I've tried using my PC in conjucntion with ActiveSyc etc to no avail. If I run the battery down on the iPAQ to drain the memory, could I just re=load all Compaqs stuff + |TomTom back in again. Sorry about the long questions. |

Hi again,
I've seen this on my own machine and it's occurred when the wrong COM port has been selected.
Does your Tomtom work okay in a 'live' situation. Is the demo play failure only appearing when you are not connected to your GPS receiver?
Before you try and play a demo, check the GPS status to see that it is set to Tomtom Navigator GPS at Serial Cable on COM 1 and that the box is ticked. I am presuming that your receiver (which I'm not familiar with) is a serial receiver that normally works on COM 1??
When I first saw this problem, I too thought it was a software fault but it turned out only to be COM port configuration. Check the GPS status.

You do not need to discharge the battery for a hard reset. To do a hard reset, you hold the two outside buttons down, i.e. buttons one and four and press the reset button at the same time. The display will fade and after about 10 secs, just press the soft reset button again.
It will now appear as a new PDA with just the basic software. you can then reload TT3.

OK Steve, I've done the "hard re-set" re-loaded all the programs I wanted, including TomTom3 and BEHOLD it works! many thanks for your support. I ned it as I'm off to France for a few weeks in September and using tomtom 3's main route maps. |

Glad to be of assistance.
Have you found the back-up facility within the iPaq, good idea to store a copy on the SD/CF card, so that if anything goes wrong, especially when abroad, you can hard reset and restore the files. I think on yours it is in "Settings". I had to do this more than once while travelling through France with my old 3850.

Hi,
Pleased you got sorted out.
If you are using V3.03 and want to backup, I strongly recommend that you get the latest version of Sprite backup and pay five dollars. If you do a search on TTBTDEV.DLL within these forums, all will be revealed.
Ipaq backup has problems with 3.03, as do older versions of Sprite. Latest version of Sprite from their website works! Very reassuring to know that you can completely restore your RAM within 2 minutes.

Steve 999,
I understand the back-up issue to be with 2210s, and indeed I have the problem, but on my old 38XX which is the same as 39XX without BT, back-up worked perfectly.
I recently purchased Sprite, but it still will not back-up that file.

to play a demo you need to conect your gps receiver or choose last valid gps location but mainly you need to have a route planned first _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

Hi SteveW,
I had this problem with non-restoring backup until just last week when I obtained Sprite v3.0.1 (build 1676) which works fine. My previous version (can't recall which but recent) would not restore with TTBTDEV.dll.
I guess the info is only really useful to people with BT or who may need the driver in the future.

Thanks Steve,
I have just gone on the Sprite site and loaded the revised version. Done a hard reset and reloaded TT3 and the back-up now works with TTBTDEV file. It didn't work with my older version.
