I'm having some trouble with my Fortuna Clip-On. When it getting hot, I cant connect to it via bluetooth. Or I must turn the device on and off alot of time, usaly it will work after a while. Very enoying on long journeys. The strange thing is, when it is connected i Never get a disconnection, even if it getting hot-hot-hot. So, the trubble is always to getting home. ;-) Could it be a faulty fortuna? I have never heard of anyone who having this problem. I
When the clip-on works (most of the time) It works great!!

Hi JLW,
Are you running the Clip-On on the standard (original genuine) battery or via an external charger? Recently, I ran my Clip-On for a continuous 12 hours on its batter, and recharged it en route with a genuine Nokia cigar charger.
Where have you got the Clip-On located in your vehicle? Is it in a hot place (i.e. due to the sun), if it is are you able to move it to a better location? If you can’t, how about placing a white piece of material over it?

Also, aren’t you one of the ones who have upgraded their Clip-On with an upgrade from Fortuna? This may have some bearing on the temperature, if the unit is not get hot due to excessive exposure to sunlight. _________________ Robert.

I have playd around with my fortuna today!
Placed the car in the sunlight! In the windscreen and placed a temperature mesure tool (dont know the english word for it) When the car was in a temp of 40ºc and shut the clip-on of I could get bluetooth signal. But it's getting satelites and that. STRANGE! It's always the bluetooth thats the problem. I can connect and disconnect WHEN I got signal in a temp av 40ºc. But if i shut it off I cant get bluetooth connection again. I have climate construction (acc, dont know the eng word for that either so it's pretty cold... I's the bluetooth chipset or transmitter shielded with a heat shield? It cant be forgotten in mine? _________________ Ipaq 2210 (rom 1.10)

My experience is that the clip-on only gets hot when it is switched on and working while it is being charged via a power lead _________________ Ipaq 2210

Agree with you...
I dont use my power cord in the clip-on while driving.
I do not have any problem with it while I'm home and indoors. _________________ Ipaq 2210 (rom 1.10)

I also have the "hot" problem with my Clip-On. I tried many things and found that it will heat up quite a lot when charging and running at the same time (even at 23C ambient), and whenever it gets hot (actually warm to the touch), it drops the BlueTooth connection, or fails to get a sattellite lock. A couple of minutes of power off (and not charging) completely fixes it. It also quits working if it is sitting on the dash in the sun (but believe me, it is not hot here right now). I suspect that this thing may have been poorly designed from a thermal management standpoint.
I wonder how many of you do not see any overheating problems(?) |

My v1 clip-on does get hot when in the sun, regardless of whether the airco is on in the car.
I have no issues with disconnects even when it's hot.

jlw,
Sorry for the delayed response. Hope you haven't felt ignored.
Your test sounds a lot like what happened w/ my first unit. I finally sent mine back for replacement and have not seen any problems since. Did you send yours back yet? |
