2210/ navman4410/ tomtom/ mount etc

Ok I have a 2210/2215 not sure which.

Here is my application, I am a locksmith in Colorado/North America, I drive a GMC safari. I get calls to unlock cars houses etc I need to enter address and give eta to customer and get their the fastest way possible. I also want to enter lots of POI's which would be home depot's lowes and other places to buy stuff from.

I have a 2210 already (I love it) I have been reading alot but still have more questions. I have a garmin etrex but don't know if it's worth the hassle of connecting to my 2210.

1. First question: How can a gps receiver work on the dash when it is getting interference from the roof all of the time?? My garmin won't work inside a car unless it is being held out of the window. Do I need to mount it on my roof. I really want the best possible signal reception since it is for business. Someone posted something about how they like blkuetooth because you can put it in your pocket and walk around with it, How is this possible?

2. Mount - I was looking at the seikio mount because the review posted here sounds pretty good but then upon reading more post's I see that I shouldn't buy a Seikio. Brodit seems to be the best option and highly rated, question is can the brodit mount act as a speakerphone for my cell phone as well?? Can I get a built in speaker with a brodit??

3. Is there a way to buy a package minus the mount? It seems like tomtom and navman both give you there mount.

4. What is better TomTom or Navman?? I hear they both use the same map data (crappier kind) Will I notice a difference in either one?Or should I use a navman4410 with tomtom software or a tomtom receiver with navman software?? I really like the navman 4410 battery's being able to last a whole day and then recharge at night, and also a optional power in.
Or is there a superior software I should use that I don't know about. Alot of stuff I read about is in europe and none is in North America so I don't know what to think.

5. I know computers well, is there any real reason to get a huge in car system rather than pocket pc gps setup. I like the fact that i can swap it between cars and the price.

6. Last , Is it ok to buy off of ebay I found a navman 4410 setup for $260 on ebay with manufacturer warranty. Sounds great! Any reason not to buy off of ebay??

Ok, I will have a few more questions later but this is my start, I appreciate every ones time this is a great forum.

I just read some more and it seems that navmans software is not favored because it is hard to locate addresses. Is this the case for north america as well??

I am almost thinking of buying the tomtom navgigator 3 software and using the navman 4410 Bluetooth gps receiver so I can get 15-30 hours out of it?

Is tomtom software good in north america?? Is navman's software only bad in the UK??

Now here is my plan HP2210/Navman BT 4410/TTN3 software and 512 MB crucial sd card and akron or brodit mount. I am thinking of the sd card so I can add a verizon wireless card in the future to the cf slot.

How does it look?

I don’t know the USA versions of the SatNav products at all, however there are some members from the “other side of the pond”. I’m sure that Lutz and the others can help you where possible.

1. If your Garmin won’t work on the dash then your vehicle may have a tinted front screen. Try the extreme corners of your front windscreen. If that doesn’t work then try the Garmin in different locations. I use a Bluetooth (BT) receiver and the great thing is that you can mount it almost anywhere as long as it’s within 10 metres of the PDA. If you place the BT receiver in your shirt pocket then it will pick up the satellites.

2. I’ve just ordered a couple of Brodit mounts for my Land Rover Discovery. I’ve not received them yet so I can’t comment, but a number of people rate Brodit very highly. There are a number of different mounts that Brodit offer for a GMC Safari, but it depends on the year of manufacture of your vehicle as to which one you need. Brodit also do a number of iPAQ 22xx holders with a speaker the 992574 is the one that is an Active holder with cigar-plug and tilt/swivel. Visit the Brodit website and have a look.

3. You should be able to buy just the software. You’re then free to buy the mount and the GPS receiver of your choice. I like the TomTom generic PDA mounts and had one in each vehicle, however the spring of the jaws of the mount eventually slacken.

4. TomTom or Navman. I like TomTom as the user POIs and add-ons are very useful. However I’d leave that answer to people who have actually used the US versions in the USA.

5. If you’re happy with PCs and PDAs (which you’ve already got) then I’d go for the PDA route of SatNav.

6. I think buying off eBay is a personal think. I also think of buying though eBay as a bet, and I only do it with amounts that I can afford to lose, i.e. small amounts. If you’re happy using eBay then do so.
