Without wanting to ask a load of dumb newbie questions, I am after some impartial (though I know it will be somewhat subjective) advice.

I plan to run a USB GPS through my laptop, stick it in the glovebox and hook a touchscreen up to it and link it into the stereo (until I have funds to build a more permanent car-pc). I already have MS MapPoint 2004 Europe Edition, and some software that integrates MapPoint called MediaCar (www.mediacar.org I think). Anyway... my questions are:

1. What USB GPS? The only place to get them in the UK seems to be ebay (shipped from Hong Kong or Singapore!!)... I want to spend as little as possible, but I also don't want to get one that updates every 30 seconds or something if you can get ones that update quicker.

2. MapPoint seems to be really good, but when I add things (The SpeedCameras Pushpins and my own Pushpins etc) they dont appear next time I start (and all my settings like Miles instead of Kilometers etc). Am I missing something?

3. Is there something I can add-on (and a dummy's guide) to alert me of upcoming Speed Cameras (and other POI)?

Thanks in advance. Thumbs Up

USB GPS's, especially Haicom 203/204's can be purchased nearly anywhere online. Try www.gpsw.co.uk the Haicom's are fairly cheap but do work.

Personally I wouldn't use MapPoint, I'd use something like InfoMap Navigator, but you won't be able to import speed cameras into it.
