Well I bought one, downloaded my UK camera db and other POI's and going out for a drive later to try it out.
I want to check the traffic mode and alerts as when I tried it on simulation, it seemed to be chiming an awful lot more than the old TT did.
We shall see |

You may have to angle it to point slightly upwards or you will get glare from the car windows. One of the drawbacks of a pure glass screen.
Other than that I like it. _________________ Satnav:

Hmmm...
Not that impressed if I'm honest.
Fair point about the screen but the display is far nicer than a TT.
Sound is also very good even in the Discovery which is a noisy old beast.
However the loading up is not nice and nor is the constant bloody bonging and binging from God only knows what alerts!
If I turn off the Custom POI alerts I don't get the speed cam audio which is a bit pointless, and with them on every POI announces itself and the I get three speed cam alerts one after another.
Installation instructions followed which stated no more than 32 poi per category so I had a total of seven sub-folders labelled camera1 to 4 and personal1 to 3 and now to find a poi I have to guess which subfolder it's in.
Very messy in my opinion.
Also on one of my alerts in a 30 zone I got two alerts before it followed by one after I'd gone past!!! And I was bang on 30.
Another thing is the 3 mph speed zones, several of them and a 1mph zone??? |

The constant bonging could be the overspeed alert which we all turn off. That is a pain.
If you're getting the multiple camera alert have a look in the units POI folder and see if you have multiple camera files on the go. Garmin install their sample Cyclops database by default. That only produces bongs as well so with both of these on the go you will be bonging down the road.
= What you describe can all be solved. _________________ Satnav:

Cheers Kremmen.
I swiftly removed all the cyclops files.
I still get multiple warnings for speed cameras (all PGPS audio too) and it seems to bong for every poi I installed.
To cure that I unticked the custom poi alert, but that silences everything including cameras!
I have to say that if I were to go by first impressions, it would be in the post back to the makers tomorrow but I am convinced it is a far superior unit to a new TomTom.
I am wondering whether I could be a bit clever and install via poiloader as stated on this site, then move that file to the 'Cameras' folder in the unit. Then go back and do the same again for my personal POI's. Is there any way I can do away with the sub-folders as that is a hindrance as well. I tried to go from my house to ASDA in Lowestoft today. In my previous TomTom's I would simply nav to POI near destination and Bingo!. The Garmin however listed it in those poxy sub-folders, which luckily had to be in the first folder as it's 'A' then when I tapped it the 'Route' / 'Go!' drop down comes up but it refuses to work. |

Have a look at my CSV to GPX converter. That gives far more control and removes the duplicates that cause the multiple warnings typically reversible and motorway cameras.
If you read up on the wav file linking you can replace the bongs with a spoken message. I find this better because I don't have to look at the unit to see the camera limit.
Having said that I'm finding the 44x44 icons to be very noticeable and a definite improvement. _________________ Satnav:

Well that's strange because mine doesn't have that large speed sign image on screen. I get the road speed sign but the PGPSW alert has no sign like the TT used to.
I am using the PGPSW 'Female with Chime' which is working, just that I get all those repeats even if I'm at the limit!
Well I say it's working, but it's not really, because I ended up turning off the custom poi alerts as I said earlier.
So you don;t think I can move the PGPSW camera file to where the Garmin ones were situated? |

Well the next thing to try is the Kremmen Convertor I think. |

Whether using Kremmen Convertor or not, bear in mind that:
Sussamb said that "All POIs can go in the POI folder".
The 32 limits apply to Sub-folders only, whether using Kremmen Convertor or not.
All POIs can go in the root of the POI folder.

Sorry but the subtle nuance eludes me by this time of night
So what you implying is that I can take my POI's, many and varied as they are, and POI-Load them straight into the POI folder on the unit? |

Certainly you can.
But I prefer to have my "tourist" poi's separated from my camera poi's, for ease of access.
So my "camera" poi's are all in the root of the POI folder.
But the "tourist" POI's are in sub-folders (A-F) and (G-Z) which split well for me, given their respective contents.

"I hadn't thought of that..."
So no need to place the cameras in the 'Cameras' folder after all then.
Cheers, Dales for the input. Unfortunately I don't really do subtlety beyond a breezeblock or a bit of 4x2... |

Once you have the POI situation sorted you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
With the cameras it does take some setting up, especially on the PC, to get it working as you want but it's just a one off. Once you have cracked it the weekly camera upload takes minutes from download to processing to Garmin.
There are plenty of recent posts here about it. _________________ Satnav:

Cheers, I had read some but haven't since been able to find them again.
I find then instructions a little daunting when they say split into sub-groups of 32 or less and then I'm told here I don't need to. |
