Hi JulietAlpha,
I'm glad you have been able to install the maps successfully.
Thanks also for your offer of some beta-testing resource. At the moment the only change in the pipeline is a new installation process. You could partake in that if you like - the details are in the thread 'Garmin POI Map users - author seeks help' in this forum. Its more a test of different PC configurations than different GPS devices though.
Let me know how you get on.
Regards,
Walter |

The Safety Camera POI map for Garmin GPSRs has now been updated to v3.124 of the database.
It can be downloaded from:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/walterwright
I have also changed the installation process to use the Microsoft Installer so the download should be significantly smaller.

What are you going to do when they start charging for the database? _________________ Gone fishing! |

Hi Wired,
Followed your instructions and have loaded everything correctly. I now see how it all works. Thanks.. :D
Except now when my Streetpilot III zoomes out (say on the M25) then it looks as though a rash of measles has erupted round the place! It does give you some idea of how the authorities have realised how much of a lucrative cash generating cow these cameras have become - as opposed to 'road-safety' features!
You did say you can control the amount of detail you see at different zoom levels (see quote)..

I did set the map to not display the cameras at less than a certain magnification, otherwise all you see is a screen full of red dots and you can't work out where you are. On my Streetpilot 2610 I can control the amount of Map Detail with a menu setting. In "Normal" mode the cameras are displayed at 12m zoom, but not at 20m or higher. I can change this Map Detail setting from Normal to Less, Least, More or Most. I don't know if the SPIII has an equivalent setting, but if it has, you can use this to control when the cameras appear.

But you said you didn't know how to set this on the SPIII - has anyone out there fixed the problem?

Not yet, but I imagine the team are quite busy at the moment .
I sent a reminder email a few days back but I'm not going to hassle them. The POI map is pretty small fry compared to the core formats so I imagine they want to get those working smoothly first. As soon as I here something I'll announce it in this thread.

It is getting a bit dangerous out there with out an update for my M5 for approximately quarter of a year!
2 or 3 new ones on a small part of the M4 very nearly found me. When are you going to do an update? If you can't get them to hurry up how about starting doing it without them? _________________ Regards,

I'm still in discussions with PGPSW about how we are going to do this - but discussions are happening. As yet there is no fixed date for any update.

The 'overlay' dated 3rd October [4.101] does not seem to match the POI download or the .gdb file in some cases!
Has the correct database been supplied for the overlay?
One location that stands out is 40-M-5701
