Great news in today's newsletter. I copy here for future reference. Let us know if you need any beta tester ;)
----
Apple's latest iOS Beta, iOS 11 was made available to developers two weeks back and with it comes notice that 32-bit apps will no longer launch when that version is launched later this year.
CamerAlert is currently 32-bit but we are working to re-compile the app as a 64-bit package in readiness. We'll also resolve the black borders and a few other bugs whilst we're at it and the plan is that once that's done and available we can then work in earnest on the ground up re-write. The Android platform will also get some attention, we're aware that there are issues with some new Android phones.

Yes that is great news that work is already happening on a 64 bit version of CamerAlert.
May I ask the team to add a new function ... that of navigating to (and capturing new) POIs from the free PGPSW POIs?
The PGPSW POIs are certainly more accurate than those from TomTom plus they are more easily and quickly amended.

I don't know how hard this is, but being able to add one's own POIs to it as well would be good. |

Another useful feature would be the ability to set proximities by camera type.
Specs cameras only need a second or 2, Redlight 5 to 10 secs whereas Gatso's need 15secs+, etc _________________ DashCam:

He has selective thinking and reaction time - just like me.... for birds and bugs it's a full minute, for cats, dogs, rabbits, badgers and foxes it's a few seconds, for deer, cows and horses it's one second, for humans it's instant. _________________ Dennis

Ha ha nice one, but surely it's the other way round! You need plenty of warning for humans, whereas a mosquito gets an instant slap.... _________________ Where there's a will - there's me! |

"POI Viewer (for iOS)" can already do that (and it works with all SatNav apps including TomTom GO Mobile) although I agree that it would be useful to have that ability in the new version of CamerAlert!

Just as stated before Fixed cameras trap you within a few yards of them, but mobile cameras can trap you over 1/2 mile BEFORE you get to them, so need quite a lot more warning time for mobiles.
SPECS do not trap you at the camera at all, so you don't need any advance warning (but a few seconds, say 5 is useful) so what's the point of knowing that there is a SPECS camera in 1/2 mile (or whatever as it's not going to trap you).
Redlight cameras don't trap your speed at all, so why do we have them in a speed camera database? Because peeps cant tell the difference between a redlight and a redspeed.
It could be argued that Redspeed cams need the same warning as any old fixed cam, but even without any warning, you are much less likely to be trapped speeding by one because of the multiple red/green lights all around the junction. Like Redlight cams, they are only there for peeps who blatantly ignore the lights. Jumping a red light or speeding across a lights controlled junction is far far more dangerous than just exceeding the speed limit (by pretty much any amount) |

Hey, here's an idea. Why don't we start a topic for suggestions and/or requests for additions, changes and improvements to CamerAlert? _________________ Dennis

I thought it was just me thinking different approach proximities would be nice.
Your Specs example is what I think. You only need to know when entering a zone, not half a miles warning to slow down.
But, with an option, if you want half a mile, so be it. _________________ DashCam:
