BUT the other flagship models work. The 1000 series has issues..... NO IT HAS BIG ISSUES, and has done since the day it came on the market late last year.
It would be foolhardy NOT to look elsewhere _________________ Keith

BUT the Go 1000 and 1005 are simply better navigators than the flagship Navigon or Garmin units full stop
Faster route calculation. Clearer turn views. Most accurate vocal guidance. Easiest mount. Live Traffic to which no other comes close
So yes, it has issues, but to look elsewhere at the moment (for a flagship model in Navigon / Garmin / TomTom / Mio range) is foolhardy |
I would second that. _________________ Triumph Tiger 800 XRt

Tell me KeithMillar have you actually owned one or tried one of these units?
Whilst i respect your opinion, is it based purely on other peoples opinions? Mine was based on the fact that i have a unit and i use it daily, and as a navigation device it is simply the best TomTom i have owned.
Accepted the input from TomTom to maintain the device is woeful but i for one dont really care about things i rarely use.
All i want to cap it off is the ability to update, back up and put on the cameras from here, with that i will have everything i have ever used on any of my units. Then this unit will be so far ahead of any of them in my humble opinion. |

As a fellow owner, I would 2nd that opinion....but each to his own. _________________ Gee-Pee

In a word..... NO
Why should I pay over £200 for a brand new item that does not do what it says on the box
However once TT gets things fixed then and only will I consider buying a unit from TT
In the meantime my patience grows thinner as TT fail to deliver on their promises _________________ Keith

I'm lucky enough to have access to a Go1000 and also have a Go940.
Without going into all the plusses and minuses of each model all over again (see lots of previous threads for that), I'll just say that if I grab one to take on a journey, it's always the 940.
If the 1000 did everything the 940 did and did it as fast as the 1000 does it's route calculation, I would be ecstatic and use it all the time.
But it doesn't, and never will do, even after all the promised updates.. |

Well, that is your choice of a consumer, but until you have either bought it or had the opportunity to try it in real life, then I do not think you can make judgements. I would prefer to read something like xtraseller's comments above, which are based on fact. _________________ Gee-Pee

Yes your right as a fellow consumer I have the right to choose what I buy and at present I'd not touch this with a barge pole never mind pay out over £200 for something that at the very least required further development before it was put on sale.
But other members on here do have access to the 1000 series and can compare it other units ie TT940 and out of choice they'd Not pick the TT1000.

Interesting Andy. Yes the 1000 series are fast on route calculation.
I loved my 930 also but compared to the large screen and graphic quality of the 1000 series i do prefer the latter.
It is a shame that these units cop so much flak because of the lack of "features" that were promised. The unit itself is good, the supporting software i.e. MytomTom and it's uses are at present non existent.
At the end of the day we all have our likings and personal idiosyncrosies that determine what we feel is important in our choice of sat nav. I am happy with mine as it navigates superbly but i would not be honest if i said i wouldn't like TomTom to sort out the rest of the issues even if i wont use most of them. |

Hopefully the the updates are soon according to the email response I've had today from a question to technical support;
"In the mid of February we aim to release new map 8.65 and the new updates. Additionally we also aim to fix every challenge by this point of time and I would like to assure that you will definitely be able to update your device, once the issue resolves."
Needless to say I'm not holding my breath but a decent, accurate camera database is what I'm missing the most compared to my previous TomTom models, the ones supplied are woefully incomplete.
A further slippage would be a further PR own goal. |

Mid Feb...... next week then
I agree with you Brucey... another own goal could be on the horizon.
I do really hope they fix the issues with the 1000 series as it does like a great piece of kit _________________ Keith

Well that's AHEAD of schedule for some of the outstanding issues!
Itinerary Planning was only due for release in Q2 2011. |

I've just been updating my 540 and went to tomtom to see what changes they had made before I downloaded the software, www.tomtom.com/6141 now at the top of the page was this
Version 10.024
(GO 1000 and GO LIVE 1000)
Improves artwork, layout and translations in several places.
Increases overall stability and performance, especially for connections with computers, Bluetooth phones and RDS-TMC receivers.
Fixes problems with LIVE roaming in Luxembourg.
Improves route planning precision in a few very specific situations.
Fixes several minor audio problems and other minor bugs.
Introduces several minor user interface improvements, such as removing the need for street selection in Local Search with Google.
My 1000 says there are no updates ready but its on software 10.022 |

That page is often wrong or out of date.
Seems its "ahead of date" this time. |
