A few notes from trying CoPilot on a journey today.

I am experiencing the screen going dim at odd times, despite being on a power cable at all times. I think if the iPod is also playing it stays on, but otherwise seems to go dim after a period.

At a junction where there was an immediate right after a left turn I got no advance notice of the immediate right.

I changed to the daylight map style to British but them noticed that the calculated route could be the same colour (green) as some of the other roads making it hard to determine in advance which was the route. I changed back to "International".

I notice there's no POI editor built in...

..is there a way to make POIs? I'd like to create a catagory for my customers and put them all in

I noticed you can create a new routing profile that says how much you like or dislike different types of roads, and what speeds you'll drive on them.

Additionally, you've got the different types of routing... fastest shortest, economical, avoidng expressways etc.

I think the default is economical.

I wonder if the backlight issue only happens at dusk/night. Just a theory.

where about is that ? can't find it Confused

I managed to get a user guide URL from ALK
http://guide.copilotlive.net/doku.php
Not brilliant but better than nothing!

I've just dowloaded it and I must say it's not a bad £26 spend.

I thought I'd give it a quick road test to see how it fared and after an initial scare it worked out well. Something worth noting is it's worth checking the POI's location before setting it as I found it was trying to route me to a side entrance to a train station (on the wrong side of the tracks) instead of the main entrance.

Just a quick warning. If you play around with "Plan A Route" it uses this as the master setting so don't plan a route and then decide you want to go somewhere else as it adds the last picked destination on to the end of the previously written route. A tad worrying at first when it was trying to take me where I need to go next week and had just wanted to check the route out beforehand! You need to clear the Plan a Route list before you can just go directly to a location (sorry if this reads badly It's harder to put in to plain english than I first thought).

I still haven't found some of the features I've been looking for but I'm sure that's down to user error rather than them not being there. Once I've found them I'm sure this will beat some of TT offerings, I love the idea of optimising a list of destinations in to a route and also being able to travel to a geo-tagged photo (I haven't found this feature although mentioned in the sadly generic instructions it may not be supported on the iPhone).

Hopefully in future editions we'll be able to add add cameras POIs etc from a .ov2 / .csv file (please please please??).

Not mentioned is that the Europe version is now available on the app store at £59.99 although at 1.6Gb I didn't want to bloat my 8Gb iPhone too much, 220Mb for the UK version is much better for me.

I've been using this over the last couple of days on my 3GS.

My display dims like other noted above. I have been using it around Croydon as all my recent appointments have been around here. sometimes it seems to lag behind where I currently am & today it didn't finish my journey - just stopped 50 yards before the end of my road. I have only used for 10-20 mins max at a time so far.

I would like to test it over a longer time & distance, but not sure when I will be going out of town.

It's different to Tom Tom and very different from my built in Skoda sat nav which I have grown to appreciate! (don't have to take it out of car several times in one day at each appointment).

I like it and hope the promised updates happen.

My biggest problem is O2 and their lack of 3G service wherever I go around London!

One problem that others have mentioned I do not have a problem with and that is volume.

I use a Dension Gateway 100 with an Active cradle. so it charges the phone, plays my ipod music and sat nav instructions very clearly. It would be better if the volume of ipod was reduced when sat nav instructions were being issued, like my Skoda sat nav does. but otherwise it's all ok.

There are so many settings to choose from that I would like a manual which is advertised on the itunes app store as being on their site, whereas when I last checked nothing was available for it, unless we use the version 7 manual. (is there much difference between v7 & v8)?

Mike

The backlight is a strange issue as I have seen it fade then go to off when running Navigon, Sygic and IGo but as yet Co-Pilot seems fine, I suspect this is a trait of the iPhone though rather than the actual nav software - Currently I have set the iPhone never to power off which seems to help with the backlight and the other apps and might also explain why its not fading out while running CP. The only downside to this is should the phone ring while its left in the car it tends to flaten the battery! (The car is very secure at work so leaving the device in isn't an issue) - Mike

Would you believe it.

There is now a users guide on live at www.copilotlive.com/iPhone

Doesn't mention iPhone, but I guess it is pretty similar to the WM versions and Android version.

I think I've developed a personal hate for the "Plan or Edit Trip" function, possibly because I think that it should be re-named "Use this instead of the Destination icon because that really doesn't do much, this over-rides it and you get far more options here anyway".

If they change that in the next version I'll be over the moon.

Failing this I think I'll just have to ignore the "Destination" icon and learn how to use the software properly (and forget the years of TomTom use).

Ignoring this slight hiccup, I really think this has some fantastic features that actually surpass TomTom.

Don't seem to be able to find how you cancel a active route. Anybody know? Cheers.

menu / delete next stop will work for a 2 point route with no waypoints, i think.

menu / plan or edit trip / options / clear seems to work too.
