Hi all,
I spoke to TT yesturday about this problem and requested an update on as and when the next software update will be happening I have been advised that mid feb.

From what everyone is saying about the next map update this seems to be right but i wont hold my breath about this.

After speaking to someone yesturday it seems like the software guys have been working on something else and they have been fully aware of this but i feel we have been all left out to dry on this one.

oh one other thing it seems like they they have been keeping a very close eye on the forums and it seems they are very aware of this little work around but have refused to say anything about it the only advice they have been giving out is to update the voices and this has work for a few people but not all.

"Thanks for the e-mail. We can honestly tell you that it is not a hardware issue. Again, once a new application is released, it should resolve the problem. I do not have an exact time to give you on when the new app wil be released. I can tell you however, it should be some time in the near future. The reason in that we release 4 maps a year, and with the map release comes a new application. We have not yet released a new map this year...."

Hello
I received this E-mail from TomTom today.
It looks like that they have something coming out soon.

Ciao everybody,
Thanks for your comments to my message of last Tuesday. I've decided not to contact TT just yet as the release of the new software seems to be so near. Xandre's message seems to confirm it.
How TT got into this situation is beyond belief. I feel that at the moment they are trying to outdo Microsoft who have taken so much flak in the last twenty years or so for their “Window” products but often the problem was with the large quantity of third party hardware and software being faulty or incompatible. TT is working in a small field and only has to keep on improving a very limited computer with probably quite sophisticated software which is thoroughly tested (?) before being released. I'm not a technical person so my assumptions might be completely wrong, forgive me TT if that is the case.

Please log a case online with TT, if not just for the comedy value of the useless advice they will give you!

This is what TomTom sent me last night - However selecting the voice i installed doesn't seem to play - no sound at all.

Quote:
Please try the following:

1/ Fully backup your device using Windows Explorer.

2/ Download the LoquendoTTS version 7 voice of your choice:

British Kate Voice
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/tts/loquendo7/British_English-female-Kate.cab
British Simon Voice
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/tts/loquendo7/British_English-male-Simon.cab

Keep this safe on your PC for now.

3/ Download the Navcore 8,320 application from:
http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/navcore/navcore_8.320.9901.gox20.cab

4/ Using Windows Explorer delete the folder LoquendoTTS from the TomTom device.

5/ Install the Navcore 8,320 application using WinRar.

6/ Install the LoquendoTT Voice downloaded at step 2 using WinRar, extract the files directly to the LoquendoTTS folder on the device (I know you deleted this folder at step 4, but step 5 will have created a new folder Wink

After this your device should function normally again.

Hope it helps some of you, and if you do get Kate working let us know Smile

Forgive me if I'm losing the plot, but isn't this the first time TomTom themselves have suggested installing v8.320?
It's still not an official release for the x20 models AFAIK.

And correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a solution found by mikealder and Andy_P? i suppose it could be TT found this out themselves but seems interesting that the wording is almost identical and since when did TT tech support have the word 'wink' in their emails!

If this is the case it's like the final insult. You guys find the solution, they cut and paste it, no sign of anyone here and still no fix. They're taking the ....erm....mickey, aren't they?

EDIT - I see 'consumerway' has started a new topic about this - best to continue there I guess.

Go back to page 28 of this thread to find my original post which reads very similar to that sent out by TT CS.

You have to instal the update manually and tt home will no longer fully work - Mike
