I have exactly the same problem.
I bought my unit from PC World about three weekends ago.
Not sure if it's worth swapping this or waiting for a software update (assuming it's not related to a hardware issue) |

One of my mails from TomTom suggested the device needed more than 3MB of free RAM to work properly.
Mine crashed again yesterday and I noticed that free memory was down to 2.something free. Did a reset today and its went back to 5.4mb. Then set the clock and it had gone to to 4MB free. |

That's interesting.
Sounds like a software fix is in order then. |

I bought a V2 in February this year and it has behaved superbly. Not one crash or freeze.
So, on the strength of that I passed this on to my daughter and bought
A new V2 four weeks ago, started freezing crashing and rebooting. Took it back and was given a new V3 or third edition(whatever) This was fine for a week or so then started rebooting every so often. Crunch came on Monday this week when it happened 7 times including a freeze up. Took back to P C World and was given another brand new one that had just arrived into stockand guess what?
today it only crashed four times!!!!!
Is it me? Or do I detect that TT have a big problem.
Trouble is as a trucker, I do not want to be without my beloved satnav. So if I get a refund, what do I buy. or do I keep taking back for a swap. I must say I am getting quicker at setting them up, but I would still rather be doing something more productive. |

Thanks delph2 for the link that TT have got wrong.
Just downloaded Home2 and updates have been found and downloaded and now mapshare seems to work.
Wonder if my tomtom is now cured of its other woes. Will let you know. |

I love this forum - firstly i discover yesterday that there is a 3rd edition, then i read that its about as useful as a car without an engine.
I'll most definitely be sticking with my 10 year old iPaQ and TT6 for the foreseeable future.
Given Tomtoms reputation you would think they would be either recalling units, or stop retailers selling them until a proper fix is available to download on initial set-up. |

I've just sent of my letter of complaint/comment to the head office in the Netherlands. I feel that appalled that I will pay the postage although I begrudege paying it penny after penny. Add that to the time and inconvenience of taking the unit back time after time and that's how mad you need to be to bother about putting the complaint in writing.
I'll let you know what they say - if they reply. In the meantime my Garmin hasn't switched itself off at all yet!
Snudge,
Can't say I've noticed the lag yet but then again I've used it on journeys over 'known ground'. I'll be using it at weekend so I'll let you have my view after that. |

Quote: | Actually I think it is dyslexic. Just as you come up to a junction or roundabout, TT decides that it doesn't really know which way to go, so shuts down leaving you to decide. Then when it has rebooted Sharron Osbourne tells you to "Turn around asshole".
Just what you need. |
Or was I correct earlier?

Just a thought, can you select the "Jane" voice and see if it re-boots when you use it tomorrow - I am not too sure custom voices would affect the devce causing this issue but it is worth checking out - Mike |

I normally use Joanna Lumley and have used it for last two or three years without any problem until this month.
I will of course try Jane tomorrow, but I will miss Jo.
Thanks for your suggestion. |

I have had my V3 for a week now and installed a few voices and POI's.
For the first few days it rebooted 3-4 times per 1 hr journey and i was starting to consider getting it replaced.
The voices and POI's were installed directly via my laptop without using tomtom home.
On wednesday i decided to set the voice to Jane UK and press the reset button underneath.
It has not rebooted since and i was stuck in traffic for over 2 hrs
I have a restored faith in my new TT and will report any more probs here.

Tried using Jane on Friday as requested. Still rebooted twice during the day.
At first seemed ok for around three hours then rebooted twice within the next two hours.
I didn't use Mapshare either as I thought that may have been the cause, but probably not.
Twice in a day may not seem to be a problem but when it happens it is usually just when you need it most and it is rather stressfull wondering if it is going to keep working, especially as I need it for my work. |

On my second ONE I only used standard supplied voices and that still crashed.
I suspect the common denominator is POIs. I loaded the 'Visit Britain' ones via the TomTom website and queried this as a cause which was initially disregarded by TomTom support and I was asked to try removing them too late - I'd had enough.
One very noticeable freeze and reboot was coming up to a set of lights with a speed camera shortly after. The initial speed camera warning appeared but no audio. It then froze the screen for a few seconds and then switched off.
I passed this onto support as well but it didn't seem to affect the advise I was given.
At least the user manual has now been corrected/updated!
It all seems a bit rushed and not tested very well.
But that's just my opinion. |

If people are suffering the freeze and re-boot scenario could they confirm wether they have installed the Visit Britain/Enjoy England POI's? This perhaps would give us an indication wether this is a common factor (my suspicions is that it probably won't be).
Personally I have installed them and my Tom Tom One (V3) does suffer the re-boot issue. Shame really as I love the device in every other respect but if Tom Tom don't confirm there is an issue (which hopefully can be addressed via a software update) then back to the shop the unit will go.
