Great news - you got there in the end, I am sure a few others will learn and avoid the pitfalls from this thread, The Del X50V out of the box does seem to have little spare memory as supplied -
good post for the return of info once you got it fixed -
the more info avail the better on here
- as for Nelson -
I think he sunk a few ships -
splice the main brace and have a Rum -

Mike

It's the pub, just round the corner. :D

Well, you could knock me down with a feather!!!!!???? I thought it was that former mill town in Lancashire. Come to think of it, they have an area called the Trafalgar Shopping Centre there, and in its logo is the silhouette of a naval officer ... I wonder why?

While writing ... about those pubs ... what are they like in side?

Mike, thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, I had already found that link and got nowhere. The Zip folder they refer to on the SD card must be for the full version, not the upgrade.

I bought the "upgrade" TTN5 too but it will install without TTN3 already on your PDA, so it must be the full version.
It is quite simple to get full postcode search, as already suggested several times all you have to do is add an empty folder to your storage card, call it TOMTOM. Then, the important bit, do a soft restart. :D

Yes and it works- the only reason for this post is it needs to be tomtom not TOMTOM, just thought I would add this to avoid any confusion - Mike

Thanks, but you may have missed a few posts. I have now discovered that it was a memory error.

Nevertheless it is relevant that this is an upgrade, not a pre-installed SD card, as a point worth noting did emerge about installing nthe upgrade. That is that Setup will run only if it is copied to hard disk first.

That's incorrect. Setup does not need to be copied to hard disk. In your case it may have been the solution to do so because of an issue on your PC but that is not the intended method.

OK. If it does not happen to others, that's fine. However, it still happens to me despite the fact that my PPC now appears fixed. Maybe there's an issue with my laptop (my desktop is presently out of action) as well - or my copy of the upgrade.

Normally resolved by emptying the 'Temp' folder in your profile.

Start | Run

Type '%temp%' (no quotes).

This is your temp folder. Delete all the contents.

Thanks, Darren. That is very useful to know for another time. I am sure it will also help others who read the thread.

I would just raise the question again of persistence and including lots of detail, which you seem to have interpreted in unintended ways more than once on this thread. Because I have persisted, I have procured useful solutions from those who have superior knowledge; in this case that is you, Darren.

While acknowledging the differences that exist between us, which you have already mentioned, and in which I maintain my position, I have tried to say several times during the thread that I appreciate the help that I have received on the TomTom forum. Despite the tone of some replies, I say it again now: I appreciate it, and it would have taken much longer to get up and running without the forum.

Although matters were confused by my hardware fault on this occasion, I would again endorse Mike Alder's suggestion that short step-by-step guides for new users and upgraders would be useful, and I would add that they need to include all of the points that have come out during this thread. Whether, however, this is the place for it now that the thread has become something of a ding-dong, I'm not too sure.

I don't disagree that a step by step guide would be useful, indeed there are probably many other issues that would benefit from such guides.

However our problem is simple, we are but two people (plus moderators without whom we'd have sunk!) and have day jobs too. All this rerquires time which is a commodity we have little of!

That's very fair comment, Darren, and it's all too easily forgotten. It is a thorny one when the job brings demands that seem out of proportion with the returns you get, whether or not they are financial, and when users hang on your words whether you have the resources or not.

In fact, I was not suggesting that you had to do it, but thinking aloud (or is that with my keyboard?). I wondered if to do it myself but in view of the way the thread has gone in places, did not know how it would be taken. I will have a go and see what happens.
