Surely you meant it was "snowed under"? |

I've posted on the forums pointing out the inaccurate claims in adverts for Traffic that might be a case for an Advertising Standards complaint. Anyone know any more? Hopefully it will not get to making an actual complaint, but unless it gets back to original (not recent!) then I think we have to raise it further until someone with power to make it happen gets involved. |

"With TomTom Traffic you are always in the know"
"If there's a quicker route, TomTom HD Traffic will find it"
http://www.youtube.com/user/TomTomOfficial#p/u/25/6c64TqN_-qw
And the traffic control centre!
http://www.youtube.com/user/TomTomOfficial#p/u/30/iP3-uggmDfY
Watching a few more of these, I get the impression that they think HD traffic is about getting to work in a busy city with minimum delays. The long distance journey that is quite common in the UK is not part of the remit.
Perhaps also they know not to mention distance because they knew that they were going to be restricting it. No mentions of "knows the whole length of your journey" or anything (except that "always in the know"). |

Unfortunately, that's just how much traffic delay there is in that area, compared with the competitor (or one of the feeds). Nothing about the range. |

Look, the guy mutters about 200 kilometers, so I think he's gonna get me away from the traffic jam 200K away. He shows me a route from Paris to Berlin and lets me think he'll keep me away from traffic all the way from/to.
If you hear 200K and Paris to Berlin and he DOESN'T say he'll only tell you if there's a traffic jam within the first 40 miles/75 Kilometers and he'll only plan to avoid jams within that range, then you might, just MIGHT think he means to look after you for 200K or the 650 miles from Paris to Berlin.
But I know better, don't I? I know about that little unmentioned quirk. I know he's crossing his fingers behind his back whilst he's conning me. And I noticed that the Control Centre Traffic display screen shows dates/times of April 2008 (when he drags his finger down the screen)!
Some poor unsuspecting newbie has no idea!! _________________ Dennis

I know this is mainly about TrafficHD and the more recent devices but hope this is a useful contribution.
TomTomGo710 (no LIVE services in those days and certainly one of the older models on the forum...)
+Traffic subscription via mobile phone (not HD)
Map v875
Showing traffic issues at 107 miles (though no delay at 9:30pm)....

My 1005 is upgrading is software yet again today.
It says it relates to speed cameras now updating using Live services.
Perhaps some other fixes?

There has been another non-update from Kenneth on the TT forum.
I can't even be bothered to copy and paste it here as it tells us nothing. In fact, it is worse than that as effectively TT have not been testing further improvements for the last 3 weeks or so - they have been checking that giving us half back of what they took away (i.e. a 120km range) wasn't going to crash the servers!

But on the positive side Garmin look to be releasing some updated models.
The review states they will be using TMC-RDS which if it works like my built in unit doesn't rely on over burdened servers and therefore can show and act on traffic problems nationwide.
You are limited to where Trafficmaster have beacons though. _________________ Satnav:

The problem I always had with the old TomTom Traffic (before HD) was that reports would appear quickly, but then last for hours longer than they should. So you could only trust a report if you saw it appear, otherwise you'd be able to sail on through a one hour delay wondering why the satnav was so stupid. HD Traffic fixed all that.
Now, what is really needed is a competitor to buy the TomTom data feed, and put it on a device that can do something with it. I'd pay for that!
(Heck, we used to pay something like £95/year didn't we? No, it was £7.50 * 12 = £90). Offer me the whole country all the time and I'll pay that again! |

14th December 2009 I paid £79.99 for a year (cheaper for a year than monthly payments). _________________ Dennis
