Oh no, not the Daily Hate. The address of the SAS HQ is common knowledge and nothing of any secrecy can be gleaned from StreetView. You could drive past yourself if you wished.
It could be agued that the paper caused more damage by advertising the fact that it was on StreetView.
Stories like that are just trash journalism and typical of the crap the Daily Mail fills its pages with. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It's easy though, they don't do real news, they just lean back in their highchairs and dream up stories _________________ Darren Griffin |

I learned about journalistic accuracy 45 years ago when I did a hero thing and rescued four people from drowning in the sea. I was unobtainable for comment at the time - on leave from the forces - resulting in the guy (non-swimmer, bystander) who stood and cheered me on getting two awards for bravery!! _________________ Dennis

Once upon a time there was a topic about Google Maps updates. Perhaps now you can understand why WackyRacer gets narked when Mods go so far off topic, eh? |

So time for some idle chit chat loosely based on Google Streetview???? |

If it was played out on page one the thread should have been locked; it was, after all, a front page news item. Perhaps it would be better it news items didn't have the facility to 'discuss'.
I'm finding the continual off topic posts from Mods has become a real PITA when visiting PGPSW for information and advice and it's getting worse. If you guys want to chit-chat Forum Lounge: Lost Satellite Fix - Off Topic Area is surely the place? |

I'm afraid I actually like a bit of chat, though I can see if you are searching for information it can be a bit irritating. I think most people seem to have the discipline to keep serious problems chat-free, but let themselves go a bit when it is more general. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

That is fractionally unfair. One reason why Mods are Mods is because they respond regularly, either historically or out of some sense of obligation to members. It stands to reason they are open to flack for some proportion of their posts. On this forum, Mods is not Gods, we are just a bit different enough for the Staff/Owners of the site to ask us to be Mods. But, unlike on some other sites, it doesn't carry much more than the title - we can freeze or edit or delete any post or thread, but there it ends. Being an unpaid Mod is not a licence to deviate at will. Being a member, as we all are, is that licence.
Yes, I'm very guilty of off-topic sidetracking. But I'm not alone and not restricted to Mods, there are off topic digressions quite often from ordinary members too. If every poster does X% off topic drivel, my drivel will be more noticeable than yours. So the sport of Mod bashing is about as fair as shotguns against rabbits - you can't miss!!

OK, I'll grant you that, but only so long as you grant me the same freedom to feel narked when Wackyracer joins in a thread to contribute several thousand words which are a real slog to wade through. As a Mod, I feel obliged to slog through them, part of my duty here - at least you might hopefully get a small chuckle out of our mad wanderings (which after all, rarely approach even hundreds of words at a time). _________________ Dennis

Provided it's news that is discussed I'm sure we'd all be happy but it hasn't been, has it? |

You call it Mod Bashing, I call it being a critical friend. I moderate a forum, I know you (we) are always in the line of fire but we can take steps to ensure the shotguns remain unloaded. I'm also acutely aware that we are now way off topic but no Mod has shown a yellow card.
