Jeremy Clarkson writes a column in one of the papers and I guess there must be contact details for this column somewhere, so would there be any scope to get the issue of speed cameras raised and the PGPSW database get slipped in there somewhere? |
Clarkson does not have enough braincells to use a GPS, let alone load it with speed camera POI. You might have more luck with the other two though... |

I guess from the figures given for advertising at motorway services that advertising in other places like London Underground would also be excessively high _________________ Andy

It's high time they did a review of GPS camera location technology (and databases). Problem is, it will be so dumbed down for their TV audience that no-one will be able to spot that it's not the GPS device, but the quality of the database that counts. |

Anyway, I've only just found this thread today - I could do with some facility to alert me when my vain gets taken by name.
I have readily offered to have "magnetics" on the van, but I suppose consideration of that is at least held back during the new logo competition. I had an idea of a camera symbol and the text of "My Satnav knows all the speed cameras in POCKETGPSWORLD.COM, Does yours?" and maybe "Yes, please overtake me, my Satnav is watching the speed cameras on POCKETGPSWORLD.COM" (Although I subsequently altered "speed" to read "safety"). It's not a particularly cheap advert, even carried free by me. And not everybody can do it - you need a suitable space on the vehicle. Cars aren't big enough (although one across the windscreen of VW Golfs might be good! ) and many vans already have livery which the owners wouldn't want covered or "distracted from" by other advertising. Does anybody know the costs for hoardings?
Does anybody know the costs for on the backs of buses?
I suppose they're prohibitive too. _________________ Dennis

...or tanks, helicopters, guns and other military hardware. So maybe the approach to take for the show is a battlefield analogy, where the force with the best intelligence wins. Set it up as a mock battle - plant a few enemy artillery pieces (aka empty Gatso boxes) around the country and see how quickly they get reported and fed back to the "troops" in the field. I bet I know who'd win (I mean really, with "Special Forces" like Dennis doing recon, who else would stand a chance!)
If nothing else, it's an interesting concept for a competition to generate more interest. Will also be much easier to get sponsorship for something like this. |

How about a stand at the next motor show, you could give demo's and sell subscriptions on the spot. _________________ Go Classic

Maybe the price of a stand is affordable? _________________ Dennis

What about them trailers and box vans parked curiously in farmers fields like you see on the M4. Maybe you could park Dennis there. If you managed to get mecond in top gear it would probably only be a news short and not a full blown article.
Now with Dennis here things will get serious! _________________ Dom

I think I've been mis-quoted here - this comment was made by Dennis:

Glad you found it Dennis.
I was trying to find details for London back cabs because I know they have a drivers' shelter but I couldn't find details for any association or similar, but there must be a way of getting advertising space. _________________ Andy

Are you considering advertising in the UK only or target a wider audience? _________________ Andy

Thanks for all the suggestions!
We are currently testing the waters with increased advertising on Google which is looking promising, but we are still considering other options.
For the moment we are using the budget on UK advertising, but it is our intention to branch out worldwide as soon as the recently launched international speed camera database reaches a quality we are all happy with. _________________ Robert Brady |
