Hi Guys

I still cannot get it to work on my C210, some of you might have seen the piece I started myself on pocketgpsworld? - I am using a SanDisk 2GB SD card, which should work according to Mio, either with just a folder called Maps or one call MioMaps with Maps inside that.

Mio suggested today that I just try Luxembourg on a smaller SD card to see if my 2GB was faulty, but on a 64MB and 32MB card (both SanDisk) it would not work either.

I have sent them screen prints off of my 2GB SD card and they have not replied that anything is wrong - but it still won't work.

Can you guys let me know what SD cards you are using that let it work as this is driving me nuts - I have had two visits over the channel since buying my C210 in May and not been able to use it outside the UK!!

cheers

Allan

I think it's a San Disk

Have you installed to the Maps folder or just Copied the files in? Installing should work.

Hi Trev

I have followed the procedure written up on the Mio support website - they put it on there, after supplying it to me, after I wrote to them initially back in May.

According to Mio Technical the 2GB SanDisk SD card should work - but, although I can see the files on the card via my PC/Card reader they cannot be read by my C210 - I have even supplied Mio Technical with screen prints of what I can "see" on my card, and they haven't said anything is incorrect.

All 21 files are ".fbl" and total 867MB in the "Maps" folder, do you get the same thing? Also what SD card are you using?

This is the response from Mio Technical today, and my answers in between them:

If those small SD-cards are not recognised I start thinking there is a hardware problem with the SD-card reader of this device.
Just to make things clear:
- It is not possible to write to the internal MioC210 SD-card reader using the USB connection.

I have not attempted to write to the internal card reader using the USB connection

- Only a PC with SD-card reader can be used for installation of additional maps on a memory SD-card.

I have always used the SD card reader on my PC – on all of the SanDisk SD cards that I have used (32MB, 64MB and 2GB)

- The folder structure must exist in the root of the memory-card, this must be manually made, the required folders are not automatically created: SD://MioMap/Maps

I have created these folders manually – and sent you screen prints of them

- A license.db file must be generated in the MioMap folder.

I have shown a copy of this file in my screen prints – it is showing a file size of 0 bytes, and does on every download. This happens not only to me but to someone on the pocketgpsworld.com website http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=45135 "...I will give that a try. Just a point though, the Licence.Db file is 0kb is that normal?"

- Maps must be located in the MioMap/Maps folder of the card.

They are – as submitted in screen print evidence to yourself

If above rules are used and it is still not possible to create a readable SD-cards with additional maps, there must be a hardware problem with the card-reader of the C210.
In that case, please return the unit to your vendor for repair, he knows the local repair procedure.
If this is not possible, you can start the repair procedure with the hekp of our helpdesk, see phone/e-mail below.

I am loath to pay to return the C210 to my retailer unless absolutely necessary as this has cost me the software and an SD card already(from other retailers), with no guarantee that it will work when it comes back, as well as the cost of returning it to them!!

Anyone near to Cornwall want to try mine and see what they get?

cheers

Try reformating the card in FAT in you card reader, then create a new folder, Maps, not miomaps or anything else just Maps, open that, and then copy the maps into that folder only the ones that you want, it may work but you are not going to lose anything by trying. best of luck.

I think this is your problem. It is wrong for the C210.

The folder should be SD:\Maps\

Nothing else (no MioMaps).

The License.db file was still 0kb but worked for me.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your answers

However, at last Mio seem to have accepted that my C210 is probably at fault – after exchanging e-mails over a few days, and only getting partial responses, I itemised the outstanding queries and this is the end result.

I will be in touch with their Help Desk tomorrow to see what I can sort out!!

----Original Message-----

Answers are in bold letter type.

I am sending a photo of my DVD, as supplied by “Ideal World” , so that you can confirm that this is the software we have been discussing, giving me navigation to postcode throughout the European countries?
- This is the MioMapV3 DVD we are talking about.

You have not replied advising me that I should be able to read 21 .fbl files in the “Maps” folder – is this correct?
- Sorry, but this is correct, if 21 maps are in the maps folder, you will find them back.

You have also not replied advising me that the screen prints I have supplied are what you would expect to see on your own SD card?
- the screen prints are what you need to find back on the SD-card after installation.

- SD-card content: root folder “MioMap” with sub-folder “Maps”
license.db file must be located in the “MioMap” folder, map files in the “maps” folder.

If this is what’s on the disk, it has to be found by the MioC210.

Also, I cannot accept a fault with my SD cards if they can be successfully read via my PC/Card reader but not the C210. It would appear to be a problem with the C210
- This seems to be the case, if no card can be used, the only option left is a faulty card-reader in the C210.
Can you please advise what make of 2GB SD card you used?
- VIKING, DANE-ELEC and Extreme, both 2GB version working well with our C210 devices we use for test, this are normal production units like they are on the market.
SANDISK 2GB I do not longer have for test, but the standard 2Gb version was perfectly working together with our C210 test devices.

You can start the repair procedure also from the helpdesk, call them, they will explain the procedure, returning the goods for repair is free of charge.

before that response they had advised that they will be selling it on their website already loaded onto an SD card.

"As it is not possible to find out for me what is going wrong from this distance.

Where did you purchase this MioMapV3 upgrade DVD?

The software is yet not available from us.

The additional European maps will be launched from our web shop http://www.mio-tech.be in a few weeks and will be supplied on SD-card, not on DVD."

The cost will be approx €160 or about £114 - however, they did not advise why they have sold it on DVD via retailers and will be selling it on an SD card from their own shop!!

I will advise the, hopefully, final result of sending it back to Mio

cheers
