Could somebody tell me when using the POI loader, do I need to remove existing POI's before I upload the speed camera database to my NUVI 660.

Do the new files overwrite the older ones?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Hello all.

I've been searching for ages, and this post seems to reflect exactly my situation too. I have been on a journey to Norfolk from the Midlands this weekend, and drove past many cameras and not been notified along the way. I do have prximity alerts turned on :-)

Hope for a reply.

Nick

Hi,

I have a Garmin i3. I have downloaded the files using the POI loader and they appear to have gone into the sat nav as when i looked in custom points there are 2 files there pocketsgps-uk-pmobile and pocketgps-uk-sc.

There is no warning when i approach a camera even at speed, the proximity alert is switched on but still no joy.

Could somebody please help, do i have some files missing or something not switched on correctly?

Cheers
Jif

POILoader wipes out ALL POIs before loading the new ones. You need to maintain a folder on your PC with all the POIs you wantr and then update them as new ones come out. Then send ALL of the them using POILoader.

Make sure you have the latest version of POILoader from http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=927 and then reinstall the camera files. Personally i use the POILoader version of the database. Maybe try that.

Hi and welcome.

Non Speed Camera POIs can be downloaded from CLICK HERE

Don't forget to change it to Garmin - don't hit refresh unless you change country. Heed the following warning.

Special Note to i3 users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 85 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT! If you have a card reader make a backup of your Micro-SD card to PC before downloading these POIs. If you have a newer model with no transflash card then you should use POIs on a separate TransFlash card to avoid any possible corruption of the internal memory.

When adding up the number of POI Categories include the cameras. Sainsburys, Tescos and Asda count as three categories and not one (ie Supermarkets)

I have just bought a Garmin 660FM
I have the POI Loader.

I have downloaded the files but when I try to Install them, I get this message.

There was a problem copying the data to the data card.
The device not ready.

The device is ready cause the POI loader found it.

Anyone know what the problem is.

The correct way to install the csv files is to collect all the files you want into a single directory on the PC. You then connect the i3 to the USB cable and this should start the POI Loader.

All you need to do then is select the directory and off you go.

You should make sure that both the csv and bmp files are in the same directory.

I think you might be better off asking this in the Garmin section?

As this thread is realted to POILoader used by the Garmin devices I think its quite a valid question.

Have you changed the USB port that you connect the i3 to the PC with? - i.e. are you still using the exact same port on the PC as before, some units won't work when plugged into a hub or monitor USB outlet? - try plugging it straight into the back of the PC. Next try a different USB lead.

Does the i3 have a memory card? - if so you can put that into a card reader and fire the POI's at the memory card to update the POI files - Mike

Hi not exactly new to this as i had a Dell Axim running TomTom3 for many years, but now have Nuvi 760. I have now got 5 files on my Garmin in the POI folder that i have downloaded from this site over the last two weeks, do i delete the old ones and just keep the latest download? They are all "pgpsw-speed-cams files."

When uploading POIs (inc Speed Cameras) to a Garmin just keep the latest files on your PC in the same folder. Each time you update one or more files you have to reload all the POI files as POILoader wipes all existing POIs before loading the new ones.

did this ever get resolved?

the i3 needs a special usb driver which should be available via the garmin website as a download for the i3

Nope, Censored said it was the wrong place to ask about a Garmin, so I went else where for a decent reply, I really dont need a reply like that, I asked for assistance, he gave a smartarse reply, I thought I would get help in here, I was wrong, so I went to the Garmin website and contacted them, If I have a problem, I ask them, no point asking here, the replies dont help are slow in coming, and thats the reason I havent been back, my Garmin works okay, but others are better,it gets mne from A-B thats all I need, not smart arse replies
