Yes, with Garmin lead for me = No traffic
With Custom USB = Traffic.

It's hard to come to any other conclusion. |

It depends on which type you buy.
The 12V charger lead for my mobile phone includes a cable with mini-USB connector, so it is a straight-swap for the Garmin lead.
Other folks have used chargers that only have a standard USB socket in the body of the charger and you then need to use your PC Garmin lead, or get another one of these to keep in the car.
This option gives more flexibilty on the cable length, because you can buy USB cables in different lengths. |

Hi,
Sorry to add to confusion, but after a dicky start which I commented on previously, my set up now works fine - every time. Not sure why though. I've even tried running Garmin battery down and then restarting with GTM12 and it works just fine. Also it doesn't matter if you start up ignition and then connect up Garmin and GTM12 or have preconnected and then start ignition.
My lead is the standard Garmin and the LED is always Red and displays no other colour, no Green nor Opaque.
My aerial wire sits horizontally across very bottom of windscreen almost out of sight. My car is a newstyle Vectra but I hired a Nissan Micra last week for a couple of days as Vectra broke down on M18 and Garmin/GTM12 worked just as well in that too.
Has anyone tried analysing the results from the "hidden menu" I reported on so you can check out GTM voltages and FM stations?
ColinG

As soon as I get a reply from Garmin Tech I will post it here. Personally I think your either lucky or not. I did some more tests tonight and each time, the Garmin lead that came with the package never picked up a traffic signal. I switched over to the custom USB Cigaratte adaptor that came with my Bluetooth GPS and within 12 seconds everytime I started receiving traffic. And when I say receiving traffic, it didn't matter where my aerial position was. I could drape it across my dashboard and still get a signal without problems.
I'm not coming to any conclusions yet, but something isn't right here and for the £100+ pounds I paid, I still want answers.

I agree with 'mabsey'
It isnt the lead so must as the charger i have posted where you can get one of these babies £9.00 inclusive of postage.
I now have no issues and the unit does not run hot.
I use the Garmin lead, but anothers of similar construction work equally as good.
A smaller thinner cabled version i used did not.
I may be right in thinking that the GTM 12 is a digital aerial and for what ever reason must require a little more power.
I seem to aquire and receive without any issues so far........ |

While a simple £9 12v power lead may prove to offer an improvement in TMC reception I personally don't think it's an acceptable solution for an expensive piece of kit and one that may also invalidate the warranty. If I buy something that costs somewhere around £150 I don't expect to be spending another £10 to get it to work properly.
As I've said elsewhere I returned my Nuvi 310D and won't be considering another until Garmin officially resolve the whole situation.
Although release dates have come and gone there have been reports that both Tom Tom and Argos have said that the TT TMC receiver is due to go on sale next week.
Now a TT910 can be bought for about the same as Nuvi 310D and the TT710 about £40 less it'll be interesting to see where those who have adopted a wait and see attitude finally splash their cash. |

If you look in the top right of the picture, that USB Adaptor is what I use to get my traffic working.
Here's what it says on that adaptor :
Car Charger
Model: CC-0103
Input: 12V - 24V
Output: DC 5.0V 850mA
E13
I left the unit plugged in for over an hour last night and it didn't get hot at all, so I'm going to continue running with the above.
Still waiting for a reply from Tech Support.

Hi
ColinG - You are the lucky one...suggest you buy a lottery ticket for Saturday's draw!
Was hoping to report to you all on my new 12v cable from Garmin (the one with the opaque LED) and if it improved GTM12 performance but unfortunately when updating the firmware on Monday evening my maps dissapeared so no Nuvi for Tuesday road trip. I wasn't best pleased to say the least!
I have been in contact with Garmin and am waiting for a response, RAC Live are permanently engaged but Trafficmaster are looking into the problems and again, I will let you know what the result is.
Anyone else got the subscription problems I highlighted earlier in the thread? With a strong GPS signal and after intermittently receiving TMC messages, the nuvi still says my subscription to RAC Live is not activated!
Thank you
Nick |

However, I do wonder whether if you are not actually receiving a good signal it gives that message.
I also think you get that message after any firmware update, but haven't bene able to confirm that (mainly as I'm not updating my firmware until I'm happy it's a good one). |

Ah, okay - maybe it's only when you are suffering from lack of reliable traffic signal that you get the message then. |

I agree...I am more concerned about lack of TMC info. and when it does arrive, the quality of the information. I was hoping that if I could resolve the subscription, the TMC service might become more reliable? (a long shot I know!)
Cheers - Nick |

If you are receiving traffic information, you have a lifetime subscription to Trafficmaster (else you would get no data at all). You need to resolve the reception problems, not the subscription or quality problems.
As far as I am concerned, TM provide a good quality, up to date traffic feed as long as you are receiving a good signal - if you have a bad reception, then you will get the impression that it is showing traffic that has long gone - but this simply isn't how the service works (from a TM point of view).
But yes, if you can get the signal more reliable, you will get rid of the subscription messages and have more reliable data, but it will be due to fixing the signal problem, not the subscription message, which I still believe is another sympton of the signal problem, not the other way round. |
