Same point - I want to simulate the route in France from A to B. I guess I can use google... |

Yes I get that you want to simulate a route from A to B in France but the question was aimed more at your comment about the speed of the simulation. I'm assuming you're trying to run a long simulation but for what reason?
If we know why you're trying to do it there may be a better way. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Ah! Got it. I wanted to run it purely to checkout that the 2699 will actually map it as I have never used the 2699 outside UK. I thought the demo would be a speeded up one taking just a few minutes. |

Unfortunately not. But there's no reason why it wouldn't work and you can check the route just by viewing the map. I always do that just to check the route makes sense. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks for this. But since I cannot put place A and place B in france, I do not want to simulate from UK. |
You have to select country first i.e. France to set a simulated route within France. |

You can preview it on the map or tap the bar at the top and bring up the list of turns and step through them. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Firstly Disable GPS as per above. Then -
Switch on - Apps - Trip Planner - New Trip - Select Start (and enter start location) - + (and enter waypoints and finish location) - Next - Save (and give it a name) - Done - Go - Ok - Start (and watch the demo from the Uk of your route in France).
EDIT - sussamb beat me to it. |
I've just tried it on my 2589 (similar to OP's device)
switch on - apps - trip planner - new trip - select start location -
at this stage to enter a start address requires the appropriate country to be selected. If the destination country is different then that country will have to be selected to enter the destination address.
It seems that to enter any address always requires the appropriate country to be selected. Even if towns have the same spelling in different countries unless the correct country is selected first the remainder of the address will not available from the database. |

Depends what you're trying to do ... entering Washington for example gets me one in UK and the capital of America (I have both EU and NA maps installed).
If you want to input an exact address then yes, part of the process is often to select the country. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

As far as I can see it doesn't require any more of the address than the town which must be in the country already selected or it will not be found.
In the case of the OP, to set a simulated route within France it needs the country to be selected as France!
Surely, if your device has United Kingdom selected and Washington is entered for the town you will only be able to select addresses in Washington UK?
I am trying to think of European towns with the same spelling that I can try.
EDIT: With UK as country I've entered Beaulieu of which there are several in France but only get one in Hampshire and none in France.
If I set France as country and enter Beaulieu it shows 16 towns of that name in France but none in the UK. |

Addresses yes, but Towns no. As I said it depends what you're searching for.
Doing a Where to, Towns, Beaulieu brings up both the UK and French ones _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Not on my 2340 or 2589. What are you using?
"where to" requires a country entered first and with UK selected entering Beaulieu only finds Beaulieu Hants and Beauly Inverness |

My 2508. Screenshot below:
Just a thought, you are doing a Where to, Towns and not a Where to, Address aren't you? As I posted above if you plan to enter an address you need to select the correct country, but not if you do a Where to, 'anything else'. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thank you very much, mystery solved.
Where to - categories - towns - enter town name in search box
also Where to and enter town name in the search box which splits the result by country..
I see your Garmin gives the French towns with 'departement' number whereas mine gives town and 'departement' name. |
