Indeed, I knew that and did two separate downloads: one for EUR and one for UK. Bundled them all together though, once downloaded and extracted. Maybe I will try to do EUR first, see if it works, and only then add UK, and see if it still works...

Yes, you have loaded the Pgpsw files into the correct folder.

Apart from redownloading, I would suggest (as you did) only downloading the Europe set.

Only one other thought occurs to me. There has in the past been a limit on total numbers of POIs the TomToms can handle. It really shouldn't still be a problem, but try deleting all the TT cameras. I wonder how many other POIs you have on there? (Your backup copy of the card is a backstop for this experimentation).

OK, as a first step I deleted the pgpsw files from the SD card and put it back into the device. The device then worked again. At least this shows that there is no cross-corruption of any other files on the device and that the problem is contained within the pgpsw files.

Now, download and install the EUR files...

I have now re-downloaded and installed the EUR files and I am happy to report that it all seems to work fine. Incidentally, I did the download and extraction of the files on another computer, with another un-zipping programme. No corrupted files this time around! Very Happy

As I don't plan to travel to the UK in the near future, I will wait before I install those files onto the device, making sure that everyting works with the EUR files...

While I have your attention, another quick question: when I update the datatbase, which files do I replace? Just the .ov2 ones? Will all the settings and distances - now painstakingly entered into the device - stay in place even after an update? When I do a backup of my device with TomTom HOME, will that backup also save all the settings and distances entered in relation to the PGPSW database?

Many thanks again for the invaluable help with these issues!

Cheers,

Lagerpe

You only need to replace the OV2 files.

You are likely to find that your settings for the camers will disappear and need re-doing if/when you download a new map.

TomTom Home is NOT a reliable backup method - copy the SD card to your hard disk. This is becaues Home only does one backup copy, overwriting any previous one when it does so - if you use Home to backup a faulty card, you will only have that copy as a backup. (Out of interest, I always used a copy card rather than the original, for safety. But copying the card so that it is functional in the Carminat in the car is not entirely straightforward).

But not when I download/install a new PGPSW database, I hope...

Indeed, I also noticed this earlier. I now have several copies of "working" setups.

Should one use a drive cloning software, like Norton Ghost?

No. I will probably get this wrong, but will try.

Format (Fat32) a new card (SDHC 8Gb and Class 6 or faster). Put it into the car. It says no map found. Take it out again. Copy existing card to computer, then copy that to new formatted card. Put it in car. It may work, but may not. The correct procedure is to get the card 'verified' by the system so that it will read and accept it. I'm very sorry but it's a long time since I did it (three years) and I find it difficult remembering stuff from last week!

The TomTom Discussions forum has a description of how to do it somewhere. I will see if I can find it for you, but I'm away for the weekend so it will be a couple of days at least. The Discussions forum is on the TT website under Support - I can't access it from here as it is completely unfriendly to my iPad!
