If you turn it off with the power switch it is simply put in to suspend, the processor will still be doing something, to turn it off fully prior to weeks of no use simply give the reset switch in the base a prod as this will shut it off completely (note this is something you can't do with the more modern hardware) - Mike

I believe I read somewhere that with the Nav3 devices, if you get to the diagnostic screen and then tap the on/off switch to turn the unit off, it does indedd cause the unit to be powered down.
