Silly question is 44Khs the same as 44000 hs
Yes 1KHz = 1000Hz the K stands for kilo, as in KGram =1000 grams so 44KHz = 44,000Hz. And in this instance the K realy does stand for 1000 not as in memory nomencleture where K =1024 as 1024 is the nearest you can get to 1000 in binary code

44kHz means the same as 44,000 Hz. (the "k" stands for "kilo" or a thousand)

The ACTUAL standard sample rates are 22,050 Hz or 44,100 Hz but as I said in the post I linked to, Windows often abbreviates it to show just 22kHz or 44kHz.
Audacity should be showing you the full numbers in it's "project rate" window.

EDIT: Sorry M8TJT, missed your post! Didn't see it on page 2. Embarassed

EDIT: Sorry M8TJT, somehow missed your post!
And I was just about to say "I just said that". But still, your answer was a bit more complete than mine Sad

I gave up on using Audacity,I used "free audio converter" which was much more straight forward, but my problems do not end there !
I have put all the files into one file "My garmin"
The Wav sound file plus the three files which make up the camera data base,
I have also downloaded Sox.exe which I have extracted to the "My garmin" file this shows up at the bottom of the file list as Sox application.
The garmin POI transfer is run but when it gets to a Wav I get the following two messages
" windows cannot find c:\Garmin\sox.exe make sure you have typed name correct and try again"
"Unable to convert c:\Pocketgpsuk wav to proper format, therefore audio file not transferred".
so what am I doing wrong? " so near yet so far "

don't forget to put sox.exe into C:\Garmin (or wherever you've installed PoiLoader.exe).

The sox.exe doesn't go with your camera file and voice files.

Move the app to the C:\garmin folder on your PC.

Be careful of the distinction between FILES and FOLDERS.
Files do things, folders are just containers to put them in.
You can't put a file into another file, so there's no danger of actually doing it wrong, but it can get confusing when you're trying to tell other people what you've done.

Maybe by being more 'straightforward' it doesn't give you the options you need to get the files into the correct format?
I don't know which program you've actually got (Googling offers LOTS of different sites for various "free audio converters").
Your converter may be just the thing, but without without seeing it in action I can't say if it can produce what you need.
The Garmin will require something that can alter the audio file format (mp3,wav etc.), sample rate (44.1kHz, 22.050kHz etc.) track count (mono, stereo, or 2-track) and bit depth (8 bit, 16 bit etc.) at the very least. Get any aspect wrong and the Garmin will just ignore it.

Can you give a link to the website where you got it from?
