Norman this is the point where you are almost there so don't give up now, but a break might help and try again tomorrow. As you have got backups at each stage its absolutely watertight, because you can always go back if required and start again. It may get a bit frustrating but on the way you will learn a lot that can be useful for doing other things, not just keeping TT's up to date.

Again many thanks for the help.

In answer to the request for my location, I am in Loddon-Norfolk.

Although I am at the computer early on Sunday morning, I realise it is too early to be messing around with it, so will try again later on.

Norman.

Well..I've tried several times to copy my original backup(couldn't backup new download, never got that far), but it just will not have it.

I am sure it is my total lack of computer knowledge that is letting me down, most people seem to download and have no problems.

I will contact Tomtom and see what they can offer....I have paid for something that has not arrived completely.

Normally when you to try to copy/download, you get a warning that there is not enough room at the destination to accommodate the amount of information, so you have to think again.

Whinge over.

Norman.

By all means try TomTom, but to be honest you'll get a far quicker (and usually better) response here.

The important thing is to get your device back to working with the old maps, THEN we can talk you through putting the new map on.

Can you get to that point? You said earlier that you'd managed to revert to an early back up....

Once you've done that, tap the signal strength bars then the and tell us what it says in the "version" box on the next screen.

Andy

Yes I realise that dealing with a large organisation like Tomtom is next to desparation...you are quite right about forum Members being helpful.

I have had excellent response from forum members...and a PM from a member who lives not to far from me and has offered to sort it for me.

I think an offer like that is to be taken up as I am getting more confused by the minute.

I have just remembered an old backup copy on the other computer upstairs (the one I use for digital photos), will see if I can copy to spare memory stick and see what I can achieve with this.

To be honest, I'm best off leaving it alone, with no backup of new download, I can only make it worse.

Norman.

Well we had a happy conclusion to this. Smile

We made a backup copy of V7.903, with 562 GB Map, to both the PC and an SD Card. The card was a 256MB so large enough.

Then after making sure the copy on the SD Card worked, we deleted the Map Folder, and used HOME to update it. HOME informed us that a Map was waiting to be downloaded, which we did.

When it came to install the Map on the Card, it threw up an error. Something to do with Tesco.ov2. Confused

After looking at the details it was a case of ignoring the error (rather than cancelling), and then Safely Disconnecting.

Insert SD Card into the 300 and it worked OK. Job nearly done.

Postcodes, and a missing voice, were then added.

Another Backup was made on to the PC, and a copy to a third SD Card. Checked that both cards worked OK.

Finished up with a TT 300 using App V7.903 and using UK & ROI Map 840, and a duplicate Backup.

Well done Richard I expect Norman was very pleased and a little amazed to get that much help with his problem just from communicating with a group of people who you never normally expect to meet.

Once again well done that man.

To say I was pleased, is an understatment.

For Richard to make that amount of effort was over and above the call of duty.

I could not have sorted out the problems....ever.

To watch Richard moving files between the cards and Tomtom just proved that I could never have done it.

Many thanks to all who offered help and advice....much appreciated.

Richard...you're a gent.
