Previous maps have removed details like rivers and other scenery to keep the map size manageable so maybe removing max speed data was necessary this time.

Yes, but why not delete them all?? Removing some and leaving others in place doesn't make sense - well, not to me anyway

I find the option to be reminded when going over speed limit to be a very important safety feature, as a gentle reminder when driving too fast. To me its more important even than the ability to have safety camera POIs as safety camera warnings only improve safety where safety cameras actually exist. Maybe its my age, but its very easy to get distracted for example by passengers and a gentle reminder helps. I certainly think it is far safer to be reminded in this way than having to constantly check the speedo and take eyes off the road.
I passed my driving test over 40 years ago, so I might claim to be in the category of "Maybe it's my age". Or do I misunderstand and should be saying I must be twice or thrice the "Maybe it's my age"? I don't constantly check the speedo and take eyes off the road and the only time I hear that suggested is as an exaggeration in the course of this type of discussion - I don't really know a single driver who drives down the road looking at his speedo so often as to be not seeing the road. I glance at the speedo occasionally. My backside, hands, ears, eyes and passing trees and telegraph poles all combine to tell me that I'm not exceeding the speed limit by 10% +2, bearing in mind the TT tells me a speed which is well lower than my analogue vehicle speedo, so at 35 mph according to TT, my vehicle speedo is reading close to 40. That needs more than a gentle reminder! I guess if I were to retake my test tomorrow with a TT on the windscreen and drive up to the TT indicated speed limit, I'd be failed for going over it according to my vehicle speedo.

As for TT removing detail in order to accommodate whatever, maybe the "random" removal of some speed limit data is down to good ole IQ Routes? TT have the "time taken" data needed for navigating, so drop the speed limit from the map? I confess I like the speed limit display being presented, but would happily forego it for my handsfree not to crash in the middle of an important phone call (as it did today)(again).

Today I noticed the first difference in speed limit between my 720 with 810 map and 920 with 825 map - the 720 said 60, the 920 said 70 and it was the 920 (825 map) which was correct.

If they consider road speeds a basic feature, then they need to put more effort into improving its efficiency.

You're right there Very Happy

From your own observations I suspect that NOT to trust it is the option that you should take. Very Happy Anyway, It's not TT (other than the stupid rounding errors), it's the map makers. And just because TT own TA, this does not mean that they are neccessarily going to improve TA's performance. Take Lloyds/RBS/HMG as an example of this. Confused Wink

I wonder if the limits have been removed due to the introduction of the new blanket 50MPH limits on NSL roads that are being installed by 2010.

Just noticed since this weekend the A423 from Banbury to Southam has become a 50MPH speed limit.
