Got lost (again) last night - is this right solution for me!

HP 4150

Active Mount 968591 - This has power built in supplied by the cigarette lighter. Downside is you cannot attach any accessories to the sync port whilst in the cradle so you could not use a GPS mouse etc but fine for a BT GPS.

Pass Thru Mount 849591 - This replicates the port on the 4150 on the bottom of the cradle, you have to supply your own 12v power cabel but so long as it is suitable for a 4150 you just plug it into the cradle.

Passive Mount 848591 - No connections at all so you again supply your own cable but have to attach/detach each time you insert or remove the PPC.

Doh.... now I know why I post on these forums ;)

I never figured out about the mounts and their being passive and active !!

How do these active mounts work? for example the - Active Mount 968591 - I assume the active mount is attached to the clip and stays. Do I just slot the PDA into it when required.

What kind of accessories woould someone plug in when driving? Also wouldnt this port be used in a passive mount when supplied by another power cable?

The Active Mount should suit me fine.... unless there is a similar quality and cost effective alternative. You recommend the Brodit for it high quality and ideally the alternative would be on par.

Do you know about our user group meet tomorrow near Junction 5 M3? You would be able to see a selection of Brodit mounts, a range of GPS receivers, PPC's and software etc and meet like minded users as well as representatives from some big names in GPS. I see you are based in London so it would be fairly local.

Hi Darren

An extra 24hrs will give you ample time to stock up on the wine/pints and you sure will need your positining system afterwards !!

I knew about the meet but was not sure if I could make. I have now cancelled earlier engagement and will be there.

I need to put my kit order in before Monday and this is the best chance to be "initiated" into the world of GPS !!

Be prepared for lots of newbie questions !!
