Help please, TT 700 won't turn on.

Sorry, I don't know the TT ONE. I presume that going back to the shop in Ireland is not an option? So I can only offer useless suggestions, like shout at the thing.

Seriously, I can't understand that the reset wouldn't push in - did you use a small enough poking thing? They usually click dead easy if you get the poking thing into the hole.

Normally with TT devices, the fierce cure is to hold the reset button depressed for several (15?) seconds. To switch on again, hold the power button pressed until it actually starts to fire up. You can try the reset both when it's got power of some sort (green light?) and when it's switched off.

What type of TomTom One is it? - does it have a memory card in it or not, if so remove the card and then re-insert it, this will reset the device, although the reset button should be working (have you tried usng a pin) as some of the TT units have a small switch which only a pin will opperate correctly - Mike

Confirmed veggie here, and I can USUALLY summon up enough strength to unbend a paper clip to poke the reset hole with. Smile

Vegnomeat.. If two devices just die in this way without help, you must be really unlucky. Are you sure you've not done anything "unusual"? Unplugging from the PC without either using "safely remove hardware" in the system tray or "disconnect device" in Home, are a good way to trash a TomTom.

The TT One doesn't have an external SD memory card. Also I haven't unplugged it from a PC as I never managed to get it switched on Smile

TT have agreed to replace the original GO (or don't go) 700 and I have an RMA number.

As for the TT One, the supplier has agreed a full refund when I return the item.

Oh, and I bought a Collins map, worked a treat and never ever failed to open on the right page. Also the pages look like they will last a long time without needing re-printing Smile

What I can't understand is why TT's are so unreliable and suffer so many problems.

When I spoke to TT support they weren't in the least bit surprised that the unit wouldn't switch on.

I own a software business and we write software for the electronics industry and support over 3500 customers worldwide.

If my software worked to the standard of TT's I would be catching the bus to sign on instead of driving around in a flashy motor Smile

Just in case dhn is correct check the location of the reset switch on This Page, I know of quite a few x10 devices where the microphone was ruined because people were sticking pins in it thinking it was a reset hole! - Mike
