I thought that was probably their reason, but a very shortsighted one (if not plain wrong) in my opinion.
A POI list is only going to give the address and maybe a phone number. The book is going to give far more detail about the building's history and ambiance, the food available and most importantly the beers!
The sort of CAMRA-type who is going to go to these places, is exactly the sort of person who is going to want all these details before he decides where to go.
I've got no problem with them providing the info themselves, either with the book, or by a download where you have to register and show proof of purchase or something, but to dismiss it out of hand (especially when someone offers to do all the hard work for them) seems like sticking their heads in the sand!
It's a bit much when even the company can't get the locations right. There is another error in the Little Chef POI, Markham Moor on the A1 is further south than the actual restaraunt
