I have just tried to download Brewers Fayre food category POI as it will be interesting to compare the data with a file that I was starting to create, my file currently has nearly 100 sites so I plan to ditch mine for yours and will provide you feed back. I was using the location finder on the Brewers Fayre to compile my information.
Once I pressed download though and linked to WinZip it advises "Winzip wizard cannot open this file; it does not appear to be a valid archive..."
I am using IE6 on Windows XP.
Any suggestions ?
The forum refers to "To download the latest version of the PocketGPSWorld.com POI Database or to submit new POIs you need to be registered as a user on the site and currently logged in. "
I already have a login for the camera download, do I have to register again for POI databases ?
Please advise and I will provide you the Brewers Fayre feedback.
Merry Christmas. |

No, this is not requiring a camera subscription. All you need is to be logged in which you obviously are since you are posting here.
Did you try to download just that one subcategory? _________________ Lutz

Hi Everybody
I Am A Intruder Alarm CCTV Access Control Engineer And Have Made Up Three POI Files Which I've Been Using For A Couple Of Years (TT OV2 With Bitmaps) These Are Available On A Security Forum I Dont Mind Adding Them Here.
They Are Three Wholesaler Chains, All Put Together By Myself And Updated Regularly, Just Wondering If They'd Be OK For Hear, Only Doubt Would Be The Copyright Issue,
Would You Recommend I Contacted The Companies In Question And Get Written Consent First, Can't See Much Of Problem, It's All Business For Them Or Would This Be Just From The Person Who Compiled Them ME !!
PS Sorry Not Been Updating The Speed Cams Richard

I'm suffering the same problem. I've just emailled you the downloaded zip for Fuel - BP. Hope that helps! _________________ Jock

Lutz
I tried to download just the one category - I selected Tom Tom, Great Britain, clicked refresh, opened the category and clicked Brewers Fayre, left the default of Separate files per sub-category and clicked Download.
I have since tried again and Saved the file instead of opening it.
If I rename the file from POI.ZIP to POI.Z it allows me to use Winzip in classic mode instead of the Wizzard and extracted the file to my specified file name but it does not look like it contains anything other than a file that cannot be opened directly - It gave me a choice of packages to open the file. When opened using Note pad it referred to the .bmp file.
I am not sure this helps, I will try again later.
Thanks to all at GPSW for putting these files together - I just hope I can make use of them in time and help keep them up to date on my travels.

No it doesn't. Please don't send us the ZIP files...
We do have an alternative solution that we had prepared for such a case but we don't want to throw that in just yet.
Does anyone with a non IE browser have the "corrupt ZIP file" problem? _________________ Lutz

Madmouse, which version of IE6 did you roll back to and successfully download the POI ?
I am using IE6 SP2 and the file when downloaded reports "No Zip file, bad Zip file or part of a spanned/split Zip file" when hothering over the file name in Windows explorer.

Two things.
Firstly, I've no problem downloading and unzipping the files using NS 7.2 on Win 2000 Pro SP4.
Secondly, I've got some POIs I could upload but most of them are set to the point where the route to the location leaves a road known by TomTom.
Is that OK or do you want exact locations?
For example a POI I set up that was at the precise location of Scan Computers in Bolton ( which backs onto a main road ) resulted in the system saying I'd arrived as I passed it on the main road rather than directing me round the estate road to the entrance. Moving the POI to the estate road fixed this. |

we want the location to be usable. They don't have to be precisly on the POI, rather on the last piece of public road that leads to it.
You can verify the location with the Google Map , if you are lucky they even offer high res satellite images for that area. In that case please use the hybrid view because - as explained - we need the street location as TeleAtlas/Navteq know it, not necessarily the true location. _________________ Lutz

These look really good guys. I'm using IE 6.0 and I'm getting the same error as everyone else. Hope the problem can be sorted soon. |

Ah well, we were both wrong The first post was in the Park and Ride subcategory in the Transport category - well done Shiftcontrol.
During the development of the new database I changed my browser from IE6 to Opera as IE6 was taking a long time to show the download tree. Opera has certainly worked well for me and all of the download files are valid, however I do use Directory Opus as my file manager.
I have also upgraded to IE7 and on my PC I can rarely get the download tree to show

I found this gave better results with TT when doing a Route Via Option.
You get the Green Straight Arrow, rather than the Green/Orange Bent Arrow, that would indicate the POI was on your Route.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with IE7 and each time I download whether it is 1 POI or whole categories, the problem is the same the file is empty and the error reports when I open it is "Cannot open File: It does not appear to be a valid archive file. If you downloaded this file, try downloading this file again" Keep trying various permutations but still the same result. |
