You should always let the GPS receiver acquire a position fix BEFORE driving off, once you are moving you are making it very difficult for the device to work out where you are - I have driven off without a position fix with some very good quality equipment and its taken over 50 miles to work out where it was, leave it for 30 seconds or so and it should know where it is (assuming it was recently used) - if not a couple of mins should do the trick) - Mike |

50 miles ?? Time to purchase a decent GPS receiver me thinks. |

Mike the point is you shouldn't drive off without a position fix, the actual device that gave me no info for 50 miles was a SiRF-III based device that locks on when stationary in less than 30 seconds.
I have no more room in the car for more equipment, so me thinks another purchase is not on the cards for a while - Mike |

I know that you've often said that you shouldn't, but I personally, jump in the car and drive off from wherever. Never, ever, have I had to wait for more than a couple of minutes, if that...certainly not for 50 miles ! And I'm on an old Holux device. |
