TomTom Go 700 auto power up when in car cradle.

Just before ringing Maplins to complain about the adaptor, I thought I would try my electric tyre pump on the cigarette lighter socket, the one I always use.
It did not work. I tried it in the aux socket in the centre armrest box and it worked. Then I tried TomTom in that aux socket and it worked perfectly, switching on and off with the car's ignition.
So even though the cigarette lighter worked there must be something wrong with that socket.
Sorry to have troubled everyone unnecessarily.
