I too bought the 310D package exclusive to Halfords, seemed very good value for money considering the full Euro mapping and TMC aerial
I've now found 2 online retailers (not SatNav specialists) selling the 310D, so I can only assume Halfords' exclusive deal is coming to an end. This may well see a price drop further (1 is £359 and the other is £319) compared to Halfords £399...

Hi Swing

Who is the 2nd retailer? I found the 1st (http://www.cotswoldstore.com/detail.aspx?ID=306). Given the problems with TMC and Halfords, finding it cheaper elsewhere is a real kick in the teeth. I only bought mine two weeks ago and at the time couldn't find anyone else selling it!

Nick

The second was another BMW dealer who sell via ebay. Although their advert only states "Deluxe" once in the auction title, and the Decsription only lists the contents of a standard Nuvi 310, they did say to be it was a 310D, although any buyer should check this directly with the dealer, and not rely upon my comments here.

The 310d sold by Cotswold BMW is advertised as having the Garmin 21 TMC receiver. The 310d sold by Halfords comes with a GM12 TMC.

I don't know if this a typo by Cotswold but certainly Garmin produce both models of receiver. The main difference I can see between the two is that the GM21 has its own 12 volt cigarette power adaptor and a USB lead to connect to the GPS whereas the GM12 draws it's power direct from the Nuvi via its USB lead.

There's a fair amount of debate on this site at the moment on whether the GM12 receives enough power to work consistently so I don't know which one would prove to be the better option. And by having its own power lead does this mean a Nuvi with a GM21 requires two 12 volt cigaretter sockets or splitter to plug into ?

It's a misprint for 2 reasons. One the contents of the 310D box are set by Garmin, but more importantly the GTM21 is only compatible with the Streetpilot c510, c530 or c550 (*), and won't work on a Nuvi (in the same way the GTM10/11/12 won't work on the c5x0 either) - this is because the c510/c550 use a different connector, and hence they need their own traffic unit.

(*) The GTM21 is also for the new Zumo 550.
