theripper | And when you tried the same postcode on TomTom, it couldn't find it? If you don't have access to TomTom, post the postcode & I'll check it. _________________ Jock

Have you checked it though. I think you might find it is the address for the local PO Sorting Office _________________ Peter

Simon - you may be the man to sort this out then - have you added 400,000 new post codes since TT produced their database. Am ready with hat and tomato sauce if need be. :D |
Afraid I cannot "sort this out". I am just a PM whose Company installs it.. I don't get involved with the detail... _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

How often and why can postcodes be incorrectly placed ?
For example the family house which we've lived in for 40 years has a postcode **17 ***. Yet when searching by address with a TT910 it shows as **12 ***, which is actually a postcode area some 20 miles away.
Given that the numerals 2 and 7 are fairly similar could this be down to input error when the database was originally compiled ?
The PostOffice, Garmin, Multimap and others all have the postcode code correct so it appears that it's just the database Tom Tom use is wrong.
On another postcode related subject.
Two years ago a friend moved into a six year old house and after applying to the Post Office to have his mail redirected received a phone call from them to say that the property didn't exist !! As he was standing in it at the time he was a little concerned to say the least.
Apparently the original builders failed to register it with the Post Office and although a postcode had somehow been used for six years it was never officially recognised and, as he later discovered, had never featured on any of the postcode databases that companies and businesses use. It took over three months from the Post Office updating their information for it to start appearing on other databases. |

Yes - before I asked the question I tried it on my TT with a business that I know that uses a PO Box - and the post code was for the sorting depot not the office of that business. _________________ Peter
