I must admit I thought the basic gatso would look better if it was like the specs bmp picture, but I have only just loaded them on & only use the TT once since then so I have really tried it out properly, I suppose it would be fairly easy to load on your own bmp file.
The reason I wanted the speed zoned files is because on some roads the speed limit changes from 40 to 30 & you only get 1 sign saying so, so if you miss it = 3 points & a fine |

You had me worried there!! :D
You will only be asked if you want to replace the files if the names are exactly the same.
If you leave both sets on the GO with identical warning distances the GO will decide which symbol to show.
If you just want the gatso symbol but want to change the warning distance for each speed, you will have to copy the ordinary gatso .bmp file (which is the picture) several times and rename it exactly the same as the .ov2 files that you want to link it with. Then throw out the ones you don't want to see. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

If you are using the TomTom files, I may be giving wrong info. I have only used the ones from this site - see the "UK Safety Cameras" in the left hand column of this page. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

|
|
I travel all over the UK and Europe with My TT and have a need for several POI groups, the current limit of 39 per country is somewhat restrictive so I have to be selective as to what I group things as. I have been making generic camera speed zone groups for a while (using the data supplied by GPS worlds DB) which just show the speed limit I am in as a reminder. I find this very useful as well as space efficient, I know there is a camera ahead from the warning and I know what the limit is for the road I’m on from the icon, what type of camera is somewhat irrelevant they all nic you if your going too fast!
I was wondering if this generic grouping would be of use to anybody else and if so whether GPS world would include a version in the monthly download as they are now charging for it (which I have no problem with and will sign up for the year as soon as details released)
Any thoughts? |

I'd recommend the 'speed zoned' files - bear in mind that the mobile sites are usually laser equipment with a 1000metre range!!
Some officer's like to operate at the edge of the range and by the time you have spotted them its too late. A 500metre warning for a laser site on the motorway is too short.
For mobile sites you need to set the warning for 1100 metres (for 50 - 70mph) BUT Gatsos etc a much shorter distance.
I like the idea of loading both sets of files and setting a second distance warning - thats where the TomTom system is inferior to Garmin's - Garmin's keeps warning you until you slow to the limit. I find it easy not to register my TomTom warning.
Of course I'd recommend not speeding in the first place but to err is human (I think someone said). |

Sorry about that, tell you the truth I posted it first time then couldn't find it and thought I'd done something wrong! Not used to the forum thread yet.
Yes I do merge all of the speed zoned sets (inc tba) set at 500yds but I also have the single set active to warn me of a camera in the next 1350 yrds (1000 mtrs/ 3/4mile). it takes 8 POI groups instead of 23 or so.
Does any body know what functionality I will lose (if any) if I go back to Firmware Version 5.202 so that I can use camera capture? As I know of several that are missing from the DB or have been physicaly removed from the road side. |

No worries
I think 5.202 was one of the versions where they accidentally reduced the POI categories down to 24 instead of 39, so for you it would be even more annoying.
Don't forget, you don't actually NEED any extra stuff to add new cameras and report them.
See http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=153813#153813
for how to store them manually, and then you just email them your .ov2 file every month. |

You are correct! :D
I have just tried version 5.202 and lost a whole batch of POI (don't panic I back up weekly and before any 'fiddling').
I have found one clitch in the instructions from PGPSW if you extract to the root on the tomtom it puts a top level folder call GO into the root. you need to move the /SdkRegistry /POICapture up to the root the delete GO
For those who don't need so many POI and want the camera capture the is a link to 5.202 on the camera capture page you just need to look closley.
I'm now back on 5.42 but will use CC when TT finally wake up and make the next upgrade compatable, and while I'm on a roll why on earth don't TT put a pass code on the TT at startup if you want it, Like a phone SIM card? it might make them a little less attractive to thieves!!! |
