I got both Destinator and TT5 on my card but TT5 is just unusable due to it not picking up sats easily, I have no problems with Destinator but TT5 is just awful, even when it picks sats up it easily looses them again constantly.
If I'd solely got TT5 on my PPC I would think it was the Acer playing up but it finds sats quite easily with Destinator so why the problems with TT5?

Done all the updating with TT5 and has not improved at all.

Have you checked the postss on this site??

There are quite a few posts that discuss the baud rate at which the acer should be set to run tt correctly. As I said just 'cos mine works fine at the top speed doesn't mean all get eh same sucess in different locations around the uk.

We know that things interfere with the reception. Trees, tall buildings etc. thus a little trial and error usually gets it working fine.

As you state yourself. you know the Acer works fine as D3 works thus the problem is probably with the settings.

Hope this helps.

Yep I read em all, but still wont run correctly, even went through your instruction post....

I've got TT working fine. You need to select
Other Cable NMEA GPS
I've got my baud rate set at max (115200) - works fine
Now select GPS ON NAVAGATOR

Once this is done, soft reset your Acer and wait for it to come back to life.

Now stand outside, flip open the antenna and start-up tomtom.

Once this is running click on the signal strength bar (bottom right) now the same bar (top right) this takes you to a similar screen as in D3.

In the top right corner you should see a small blue and yellow circle spinning. This indicates it's looking for satelites. (it takes a while on the first attempt but speeds up on subsequent attempts)
If the circle isn't spinning do a soft reset and sart again.

This should fix all problems whereby it can't get a fix, but remember tobe patient as it takes a few minutes on the first attempt.

Seemed to work initially then after trying again next day failed to pick up over 2 sats in about 10 mins so I gave up.
I'm not too bothered as Destinator is running so well I'll just stick with it.

Cheers

I'm currently going through the same fiasco with the other half's N35 and Tom Tom. Used it on a family trip over christmas and its doing the same with the failure to pick up sats. What puzzles me is the deterioration. It used to pick them up just fine but now it seems to struggle. Not sure how that can happen. Perhaps it writes a log file or something because it doesn't make any sense. There is a faint line about 80% up the meters and it would appear that Tom Tom doesn't consider it a valid signal unless its reached. With the Acers built in antenna it looks like TT thinks it hasn't got enough whereas Destinator says its fine. Haven't got the unit here so can't test.

There are posts elsewhere stating that a purchase of an external antenna (screws into the socket on the side) does the trick.

Might investigate this further when I get the unit in front of me.

Not sure whats going on here, as it works fine on my unit.

One thing is that I try and get a lock before I get into the car and this takes a few seconds (maybe 30s). On the sat screen tt doesn't recognise the sats until you have at least three blue bars.

This does take longer than D3 but loading tt is quicker than D3 so it's a bit of swings and roundabouts.

Mikey,
Noticed you're running a late version of Tom Tom. As I rarely have the N35 in my posession it might just need updating. I'll give it a try and let you know.
