Hello Navholic

I don't know if you are able to help me.

I have just Registered with www.navifriends.com inorder to download the POI freeware. Unfortuately, with my limited German I must have clicked the wrong button on the registration screen and it has assumed I am under 12 and I have to get a form signed by my parents and fax it on to them.

If fact I am well over 12, but it will not let me re-register with the same email address. Who can I email to get this sorted out.

Very many thanks.

Navholic,

I've installed the POI Observation software on my M2000, but I cant seem to get the camera database configured on my pc to import with POI Batcher.

As the majority of the pdf for that is in German, any chance of posting some guidelines here?

Travisb,

Your question puts me in a difficult situation.
The guy’s at Navifriends do a tremendous job and they have an English area in their forum as well.
I don’t want to create any kind of a sub-forum for their baby which they will not like for sure.
Hope you understand.

You have to be registered anyway to get to the download area so why not posting your questions there.

For me with my limited programming knowledge it was the easiest way to configure the POI database by using the POIconfigurator+ which can be also downloaded at www.Navifriends.com

You can get an English manual for the POIconfigurator+ here

http://www.navifriends.com/phpbbForum/viewtopic.php?t=1611

English forum area is here

http://www.navifriends.com/phpbbForum/viewforum.php?f=26&sid=0c5feef311f6d61f1d968a5922d993fb)

You have to be logged in to see the downloads.

TravisB
i'm on the home straight with configuring POIConfigurator+ but I'm just strugling to import the data from the Speed Camera database.

Which file did you use and did you have to juggle the columns around a bit? Any help here appreciated.

Ignore the above..... moved on to a new problem now :-(

I have PoiObserver running in the background and it appears on my Destinator screen. Unfortunately it appears all over the Destinator screen! I've been into the ini files and tried commenting out some windows but to no avail. I'm losing the will to live now.

I decided a week ago that I would stop ranting about Destinator and set myself the task of getting PoiObserver to work. Looks like the guys on the forum over there have done some sterling work and I really wouldn't want to be disrespectful to them. But its all abit too 'coder' for me. I've spent ages now just trying to get an alert on my screen when I approach a speedcamera.

It makes me annoyed once again with Destinator which is what I was trying to get away from.

OK Deep breath........ back to the manual........

I'm almost in the same boat...

I don't use Destinator for route finding that often, so I decided for the moment to continue to use the 1:50,000 Ordnance Maps with Memory Map and the GPS to show me where I am and AA Speedcare for the speed cameras.

Both program are happy to run together and I've set up buttons on my iPAQ 4700 to swap between them and a program called GpsGate to provide each program with a seperate GPS input feed. I generally drive with both running, but the AA Speedcare visable to warn of cameras and to give a speed read-out. If I need to know where I am I just click the button and my position is indicated on the OS Map.

AA Speedcare was so simple to set up - it took all of 10 seconds. I tried it on a 30-day trial, liked it and so bought a copy online. Just had to enter a registartion number to change it from trial to full copy.

I'll just keep an eye on what's going on here for the present and decide if I want to try and go further with Destinator later on. It will still be very useful when I drive in Europe and stray off the autobahn.

Well taking a deep breath has actually helped. I now nearly have everything I want. When I start Destinator, PoiObserver starts in the background. I've managed to disable all the overlays that were coming from PoiObserver and have just my destinator screen and a box that pops up with a countdown to the speedcamera and an audio alert. I've managed to shift the box off to one side now so its neat and tidy and disappears after the alert. The alert is time related rather than distance related too. I like this because if you set up Destinator for the city then hit the motorway you're on top of the camera before you know it.

I still haven't managed to get it to show the Speedcamera bitmap and the audio file isn't the one I want but I'm nearly there.

Destinator starts really quickly as it does without the Alerts1 and 2 active.

I'll keep you posted.

OK,

My problems would appear to be the Virtual com port. Basically, I can get POI Observer talking to the GPS, but when I start up Destinator, It can't get a GPS fix. As soon as I Terminate POI Observer, Destinator gets a fix.

Another thing. I could only get Lat and Lon with POI Observer I couldn't get the BMP and WAV bits.

I set up POI Batcher using the asc files from the camera database (along with the BMP's and WAV files).

Must admit was confused as to what to transfer to the M2000 apart from the obs file, so any help would be appreciated.

I have to confess that I do have Destinator working with the camera database (using the single file and using one image), but it would be nice to remove this from Destinator as it's flaky at best.

OK I can try and help you get the virt comm working coz that was probably the easiest bit.

It sounds like you haven't changed Destinator to see the new com port. Virtcom looks at the usual GPS port (in my case com1) and then passes the data to another com port (in my case com7). Havce you changed your destinator settings to do this?

BTW tried to Skype you the other day but didn't get an authorisation.

I configured the normal GPS port (6) to the Virtual one (0)

Do I need then to configure Destinator for Port 0?

If that's the case I will try that.

As for Skype, I'm only on it at the weekends as work don't allow it Confused

Yeah. PPC 2003 doesn't allow port sharing. (2005 does) Usually you need to buy something like GPS gate but the fact that this is free software is a big bonus. These guys should be knighted :-)

So POIobserver takes over com1 and feeds it to another port so they can both use the GPS data. Is your Fortuna Clip-on a Bluetooth device?
