Yes, if you buy the maps you will get a new activation code. But I think a new card will just work. You only need a code if you copy it or need to reload it from a copy.

I tought that you dont get activation code when you order new sd maps. They dont need any code what so ever.
The problem is that i dont have product code so if tomtom asks me for the any code im screwd, since you cannot return maps to tomtom. To me thats just throwing more money away. I have payed 400 € for tomtom and its not easy for me to spend 100€ more on map that i should have got.

Why dont you just BUY the maps from Tomtom?

I think Eldar's right. You're going to have to but the maps either off the TT site or if you want a slightly older map but quicker delivery look here

If you buy a new map on an SD card from TomTom it will work. TomTom will have entered the activation code for you.

Back this up to your PC straightaway with copy and paste from "My computer"

If you have problems later and you need to copy the backup to a new card, you may need an activation code.

So.......

If you buy a new map you will get a new product code with it.

Look up your device code on the screen. In preferences somewhere....

Go to www.ttcode.com

Put both the codes in there and you will get a new activation code.

Type activation code into GO and it should work.

You can store all these numbers on the TT website for later, in case you need them.

Find a reasonably clear space (if you cannot find it n Sweden, go to Finland), reset the unit with a paper clip, see if it gets the lock in about 15 minutes.

Find this clear space OUTSIDE with nothing but the sky above you. Your windshield might be "thermically coated" which also blocks GPS signals. If you get a lock, place the unit back into the car. If it looses connection, you need an external antenna.

Yes this DOES make the difference. No satellites, no lock. No lock, no routing as the device needs to know the current position before it can calculate a route to the target.

The "remember last position" or "remember home" feature is still on the wishlist.

Go outside!

From new it can take 45 minutes, but more usually 10 to 15 mins.

Put it in the open air. And leave it in one place without moving.

If you bought a new Scandinavia map from a local dealer, it will have its own new product code. If it came on a card it will be preactivated and should work straight away.

You may need to upgrade your software. Download 5.1 from the TomTom Site. The v5 software gets satellite locks quicker.

I have contacted tomtom but have to wait for answer for 6 weeks or something

Ah! I think you are trying to upgrade the map.

From the TomTom site go to the Support page - in the top grey bar.

Then on left hand side click on downloads

Then go to the second download for the tomtomGO (not the 300/500/700)

"Upgrade May 2005 tomtomGo 5.10" This takes you to the download page for the software only.

It should not ask for a product code.

open the .exe file and install new update.
