Last PM I have from you was that you have the map working, and mentioned screenshots and downloading to an SD card. I replied to this one. Did you not receive the reply?

Sorry, I was directing the question at 'stevegraniteman' as he sent me a PM and has not picked up my reply.

My mistake.

I'd be interested in testing the speed camera map. Does it notify you as you get closer to a fixed camera?

The ability to do that would depend on the GPSR. I have a 2610, and I don't believe there is any functionality like that at all. Some marine-oriented receivers will do that to avoid obstructions, but my knowledge of Garmin marine receivers doesn't extend to knowing which ones, and under what circumstances. The POIs in my map are actually marine Navigation Aids, so a marine GPSR might just do the right thing. We won't know for sure until someone tries it.

I would imagine it would not be too hard for Garmin to include this facility in most of their units, and it would be a very useful function seeing as avoiding speed cameras seems to be becoming a more important role of GPSRs these days.

I have just got a Garmin 3600, and am very pleased with it, so far. It would be brilliant if this works. How do I get hold of it and how is it installed

No, and it's a serious limitation at the moment. I wonder if we should badger Garmin to fix it. Garmin GPS units are great overall but they are no good if POI (eg camera) alerts are important to you.

Some Garmins DO have POI alerts with warnings (eg: GPS-V) but they are very limited in number (maybe 10 or something). Not much use when there are thousands of cameras. Rolling Eyes

I have 6000 waypoints within the iQue and with the software 'Birdwatch' I have an audible warning as well as a visual warning, set in my case at 1000m.

I cannot see how Garmin can introduce warnings on a small file 'overlay' map!

Aw, shucks. Actually, the installer takes 3 times as long to put together as the maps! And takes 5 times the space Rolling Eyes
