Depends on what exactly you want to achieve. Have a look at thee NMEA data - most of the lines are fixed length so you can extract the required fields easily.

The coordinates are stored as (D)DDMM.MMMMM and you have to recalculate this to convert them to decimal degrees. There are tons of conversion utilities and code snippets on the web.

hi,
the VisualGPSce software is able to log nmea file,can the information be saved to a database? eg to SQL SERVer CE??

If you want to do that you can write a quick program yourself - the Embedded Visual Tools are freely available - knowledge in c/c++ is required though.

You would not need VisualGPSCE then - the program could write the stream directly into the database

i have gone to the websitethat you have recommended. however, the website doesnt mention about saving the gps location to the database i also found out that,in order to use all the service, need to buy the license. is there other freeware available elsewhere? thanks for your help

This was just an example - of course you can also write this yourself.

But you must accept the fact that you may actually need to do something - what you want has not yet been done, so you need to learn how to program , how to parse NMEA strings, how to control a database etc.

Whichever way you choose - there is a cost. Either you pay for licenses or you invest your time.
