Couple of other questions sorry - thanks for your patience :-)
a) in 3d mode it won't display street names ?
b) in 3d mode if you zoom in it goes to another 2d screen which is mainly useless - if you put it into 2d mode to start with and zoom in does it stay on the main screen or again go to a smaller second screen ?
I have to be honest at present I am a little disappointed with my navigon to the extent that I am considering selling it :-( Hope it changes my mind in the next few days. |
Not 100% certain what you mean but I think I know the answer.
Speech, speak clearly and slowly I did have a habit of trying to say where I wanted before the beep.
a) as previously mentioned in this thread there is 2 'different' 3D modes View 3D (the default) doesn't show street names.
b) sounds like you have it still in view 3d mode, go into the settings and turn off the view 3d. Also ensure the 'auto zoom' option is turned off. in View 3d it does switch to a 2D mode so you can scroll around on the map.
I think that's what maybe happening with the map views. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

jonandmarkuk am I right is saying / thinking there are no street names shown on the "true" 3D Panoramic View, which really is for longer journeys and used to get a feeling of your surroundings, and 3D Perspective, which is what we are used to with 3D SatNav which DOES have street names - accepting not every one, as the map becomes way too cluttered? |

Yes the Panoramic view doesn't show the street names and to be honest I prefer the much cleaner look. The standard 3D mode with POI icons and street names does get cluttered.
However View 3D doesn't have street names but key area's are marked on i.e the town nearest you will be shown.
I did think I would miss the street names in the view 3d mode, but to be honest having the street name I'm on and which street I need to turn onto in big bold letters at the bottom is much more useful too me.
The problem with Sat Nav's is what is good for one person may not be good for someone else and I think any manufacturer will find it hard to please everyone 100% of the time. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

Could be, mine beeps after each part. i.e town... beep, street...beep, house...beep.
I know that a software update is due sometime this month so that may resolve it, but maybe worth contacting the support. The UK e-mail address is shown on the website unless you want to pay 10p a minute.
You could also try doing a hard reset. Pressing the on button at same time as 'reset' Never tried it myself but it says in the manual it reloads the software. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE

Noticed something quite confusing in your video on slide 24. When the M42 sign first appears, it says to the North-EAST, with the M6 to the left saying North-WEST - This is at the point where the directions say "keep right and take the M42 to the NORTH-WEST"
A little later on the direction sign changes to M42/NORTH-WEST and all is well again. But, not being too familiar with this section, I would have been pretty unsure which turn to take with the apparent conflict, just as the junction was coming up!
I know we don't blindly take a silly turn (farm tracks, rivers, etc) but unless you had studied the route on a map in great detail (so then why have a sat nav??) you really wouldn't know which was the silly turn here, would you!
I guess the point from this (hopefully) is to follow the lane/turn instructions in such cases. _________________ David

I noticed the difference too, and suspect that it may just be how the route is actually signposted.?? _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

Hmm... If it's like VM in its directing - speaking the directions as they appear on the signs, I would have expected TTS to say what's actually on the sign (otherwise it's pretty meaningless saying "M62 to the NW" unless the driver's also holding a compass ), or maybe that's what the sign DID say when the mapping was done, but some not-so-bright spark in the Highways Agency has changed it since _________________ David

Without knowing how complex the junction is in real life I suppose it's hard to comment on if the reality view sign information is correct or not.
I have known Motorway and A road signs only give limited information. I suspect maybe the lanes are for both NW and NE or whatever it says but not enough room on the signs to say? _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

Cool the lack of beeps was a clue that something wasn't right. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

can you disable certain pois from coming up on the screen?
I wish the manual would say what is actually configurable on the device rather than simply how to configure it.
I really do hope michelin guides come as an addon as that will be good value added. Although I do prefer the zagat model of ranking and how it is put together even if michelin is meant to be professionally done. |

Yes you go into the settings and can turn off certain POI and also set your quick access POI. i.e the 3 POI's categories which you tend to use most placed on the front 'Navigate too' screen.
The manual does a very poor job and certain it's been done by whoever did the ViaMichelin manuals as they were also very poor.
Maybe manual writing is outsourced or something? _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |

Navigon released the software update today. The version is now 7.0.7. It's not clear what the software fixes and I've not really had chance to test it out.
The update is 370Mb in size and all the updating is done via Navigon Fresh. _________________ Navigon 8450 LIVE |
