Hi,
I don't know how true this is as I only received a brief text message from someone last night, however, apparently there are now cameras (gatsos i presume) on approximately 6 of the gantrys over the new 4-lane section of the M1 between junctions 25 and 28.
I have not submitted these because I don't know how true it is, but I thought I would make everybody aware just in case!
Hope this helps someone.

Ah brilliant, I only travel up and down there about once a month so it's difficult to know what the state of play is!
Thanks |

Yes the good times are over no more belting up the four lane stretch I came up on Thursday and got quite a shock I must have passed three sets of them.
There was a sign saying cameras not in use and they are gatso on all four lanes.
The problem is the new gantries are not on google earth, I usually photograph them then look on google.
None spotted on the south bound yet, I bet they are going to be variable to force us to slow down it works on the M 42. |

But I believe these gantry cameras are NOT going to enforce the National speed limit (i.e if the signs arn't displaying 20/30/40/50/60)
22 Nov 2010 : Column 30W—continued
Speed Limits: Cameras
Mr Knight: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport pursuant to the answer of 5 July 2010, Official Report, column 11W, on M1: speed limits, whether fixed speed cameras will be used to detect offences of speeding over 70 miles per hour. [25203]
Mike Penning: Speed enforcement cameras to be installed as part of the controlled motorway system on the M1 motorway between junctions 25 and 28 are not being introduced to enforce the national speed limit.
When no restrictions are in place, the signals will not show any speed limits, and will therefore indicate that normal motorway regulations and enforcement regimes apply. |

The "Camera's not in use" signs have now been removed so I assume they are now live!
They are now on the PGPSW database!!! |
