Hi nvisibl and welcome . What exactly are you doing on the mountain range - a shop in the Lake District? Mountain Rescue? Geocaching?
From your post it seems that you want to add a GPS capability to some sort of office/shop PC system. But can you be quite a bit more specific about what you do, and what you want to do? _________________ David

Sounds like a PDA running windows mobile meets your needs, I use the Asus 696 with windows mobile 6, using tomtom7 and includes mobile versions of office word, excel outlook etc and interfaces with the Pc versions, has GPS,wifi and bluetooth built in, also will run most satnav programs and memory map if required also sdhc memory cards so c an add 16gb and possibly upto 32gb, although a couple of years old still within the realms of being updateish for adding other programs, must admit not being uoptodate with the current equivalants the general opinion seems to suggest that the PDA is disappearing but like Flares maybe not altogether. _________________ Moto G5s Plus, Sygic 17.4.8
i'm hoping to get a recent PDA that may have a bit of longevity in its supportability. but i'd consider anything that works well and that is fairly compact.
We would use a GPS for finding our location in a mountain range, recording our location, finding a set location (=Geocaching, but not for that purpose), relocating a given location, defining the location of a photograph, measurement or observation, recording a route etc..
was looking at the compaq iPaq 214 and perhaps having a GPS card to slot into it but i'm not sure the compatability or if map software is needed etc,..
