|
|
I am trying to establish the differences between these 2 models.
I know that the 740 has 3 months Live as opposed to the 1 month for the 750, and that the 740 is more expensive than the 750.
After that, can anyone please point out the main differences?
What other advantages does the 740 have over the 750? |

AFAIK None, OK so you get Navcore 9 with the x50 which offers a new screen layout, but in terms of true capability the only new kid on the block is Eco Routes, a route planning option that can plan "green roots" (yes that spelling is intended) - Its a waste of time as is most of the other "green" policy we are fed by the establishement we pay taxes to - Mike |

Thank you, Mike, for you reply.
I have since noticed that the 750 has double the internal memory of the 740. Is that important?
Also, do both models have the same maps? The TomTom web page info would indicate that the 750 covers more countries than the 740. |

I am not too sure if the map is actually different between the two models, unless someone with each device can post up the map version number and build, once we have that information it is easy to see if the maps are indeed different.
As for the extra memory, the 750 does have 4GB internal but this isn't a major issue as you can always add a Micro SDHC card to either device up to an including 32GB in capacity - Mike |

|
|
I have TT720T but unfortunately I found the TMC to be virtually useless. On Monday night (when we had a little bit of snow (!) in Hampshire) the TT Route Planner seem to be fairly accurate compared with the BBC traffic, BBC hants twitter, RAC and the AA. Also, recent reports on these forums suggest that Tomtom have sorted HD traffic out now so I'm looking to replace my trusty 720.
As their are good deals on both the 740 and 750 these are the replacements I'm thinking about. Other reports on these forums suggest that the 740 has more functionality than the 750 and 3 months free live services. Have I missed any major advantages on the 750?
I have read a lot of reports of how unreliable the newer units are. Has the quality gone down? Are they really much worse than the 720? |

The really big difference kicks in when you compare the 940 with the newer 950 and you will notice a very backward step in terms of capability.
With the 740 to 750 trip there is no real difference apart from you get Navcore 9 with the 750 but as you have observed you get a shorter Free trial of the Live services with the newer unit. Forget the information in my previous post about memory capacity as that was based on information from the TomTom tech spec on their web site that was wrong, this has since been altered so you don't get the 4GB memory I mentioned earlier.
As you are going from a 720 you need to be aware that only the 940 had the mp3 player and FM Tx capability, non of the x50 range have this capability enabled so if you want to carry on playing music via the TomTom like your 720 can do you need to consider what you are doing - Mike |

Thanks Mike for the info. I don't use the mp3 player and FM Tx capability today so it looks like a 740 should be fine for me.
Is their any report on how reliable the 740 units are? |
