Just created a few blurbs from this site for my speedcamera POI. Have gone for a drive where I know there are some gatso's and it works fine but problem is the volume is really really low - at least half as loud as Delicious Dora from TTN - can hardly hear it even with the car radio turned off! Anyone else noticed this? Have checked the volume control on the Ipaq but it is set at max. I know the volume on Ipaq 2210 is pants anyhow but this is so bad it really isn't worth having! 8O |

Yes we found this when we created the original PocketGPSWorld.com voice files.
The solution was to increase the volume of the recording in the native sound files. We did this using WaveEdit and doubling the volume and then saving the file again.
Not an ideal solution, but it works. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Thanks for that Mike. Where can I find this WaveEdit you mention. Can I use it on the same files - I still have them on this PC - or do I have to go to NaturalVoices again and re-create them? Some instructions would be welcomed as I am no expert in these matters!
Cheers

Tom,
I am not sure where that came from, I think it was with some music editing or midi software bundle, but I am not too sure. It was a real long time ago that I installed it.
I have found another utility called WaveStudio (from the Creative Soundblaster bundle) that also does the same thing. _________________ Mike Barrett |

MikeB - thanks for that - an excellent suggestion which has solved the low volume of my speed camera warnings. _________________ Tony

Tony, I found and downloaded WaveEdit and tried to edit one of my naturalvoices.com .wav files for my speed cameras but found that it just distorts the sound even when you try and increase the volume a little bit - how did you get on with it?
Cheers

Hi Tom - I didn't use WaveEdit. I used WaveStudio which came as part of the Creative Soundblaster package. I just increased the volume a bit and then resaved. Luckily got it right the first time as the camera warnings are now the same volume level as the TomTom directions. Now all I have to do is find out why suddenly the Checkpoint warnings only work if I do a soft reset and then don't use any other program before setting off in the car......but that's another problem!! _________________ Tony

You can use Sound Recorder in Windows under All Program/Accessories/Entertainment.
Open the file, then select Effects from the toolbar, choose Increase Volume. |

I must be thick but can only so far find "Ipaq Audio" on my 2210 which doesn't seem to be the one. I assume you mean on the PDA and not PC?
Thanks

You'll find it in Windows on the PC - sorry for not making that clear. |

Many thanks for that tip - I have just increased the volume on my camera sound files and it is a big improvement.
Your nickname does you no justice in this instance!! 8O
Thanks again

Windows' own built in Sound Recorder (in Accessories->Entertainment in the Start menu) can also increase volume in Wav Files quite easily. |
