hi guys and gals..
Can somebody help me... Brought a tomtom xl a couple of months back but never really used it. Now i have sourced a new job and need the nav i decided to make sure everything was in working order.
after charging for a couple of hours i tried to turn it on.. but got nothing. Tried the master reset and it just kept freezing on the main screen. So i downloads tom tom home version 6 and did the updating thing. Now i'm getting a big red cross on start up. According to tom tom its missing the "application file," They also say i should update the unit and it will provide me with the missing/damaged file... so i did the back up thing and updated it again but it still wont give/sort the damaged file.
Now the best bit... just had a look at the file stored on the tom tom and found nothing.. empty, ziltch..!!! And guess what.. the back up didn't work either.!!! please help. need it for work |

No files? How did you manage that? Do you have any backup? If not then you're looking at having to stump up for a new map, the application is available from TomTom FOC but not the map. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Let's just confirm what you are doing when you say you have no files whatsoever....
Are you connecting the TT to your PC, ignoring TomTom "Home" if it opens (preferably close it down again) and using Windows Explorer to view the TomTom as a new drive? |

There are plenty of posts describing how to get up and running again from your situation. The simplest being to install TomTom Home (if you haven't already) and using the "update my device" section.
That will put the software on the device for you, and you can then use "Add Voices etc." to get other parts back.
But none of this will recover your maps. To get those you will have to buy a new one from TomTom if you don't have ANY files left on the machine or useable backups on your PC. This is because each map is uniquely coded for a particular machine, so a map copied from another one won't work. Sorry. |

Well, it's still under warranty if only a few months old. Maybe you should contact TT about returning it for repairs. _________________ David |
