Hi. I am trying to back up my TT 540 using Internet Explorer before installing the Camera Database from this site. Are there instructions on how to do this please? I am using XP Home with Service Pack 3 installed. |

Thanks Mike. But my Internet Explorer/Tools does not have Folder Options? Is using a Tom Tom Home just as safe a backup? |

You use Windows Explorer for backing up the device, not Internet Explorer.
And no, Home is not as safe. It isn't as reliable, and when it creates a backup it overwrites the previous one.
Just follow the instructions Mike gave you the link for, and come back and ask again if you hit any more problems. _________________ Anita

Windows Explorer is surprisingly well hidden on a PC unless you move it somewhere better. Almost as if Mr Gates didn't want us to use it!
I think it is in "Accessories" inside "Programs" on the Start menu, but I keep it on the Strt menu top level and in the Quick Launch bar too.
But Windows Explorer (or very close to it) is also found with the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. Just click on the "Folders" icon when it opens and it looks identical to Explorer. |

Must admit I never use Windows Explorer. But I used it to back everything up, installed the Camera Database from here with the voice files with the quieter siren, and I am impressed. It picked a camera up fairly local to me in Bristol that I never knew existed and does not show on the TT540, and warned of another one that was not showing with TT as well. Suprisingly the 2nd one did show on my old TT 510, but not on the 540? And I like the voice warning with the siren, really brings it to your attention. Well worth the subscription! |

Try Win+E

I don't have a "My Computer" icon on my desktop.
Start ... All Programs ... Accessories ... Windows Explorer.
I have it on my thingy bar at the bottom, but with the extension of "/E, C:\DennisN'sDirectory" so that it opens in my data directory expanded.
But blimey, Win+E is a stunner!! That's in the class with Ctrl+C, Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V. I shall use it tomorrow. _________________ Dennis

That's even better than right click Start, click Explore, which is what I've always done! _________________ Anita

Try Win on its own for quick access to My Computer, Control Panel and such!

If a Shortcut key is added then the Explorer can be invoked even if the Task Bar is hidden. As in Ctrl + Alt + E.
The one advantage over Win + E, and the reason I use it, is that it opens in the Folder I use most.
You can also have multiple instances for Explorer to open in different Folders. _________________ Richard
