lo all, first id like to say very nice site! ive found alot of info on here thats helped me out alot!
I have just got a Garmin 250W and have a couple of questions
1. USB Cable, now before i buy one... would any other USB Cable that i might already own work?
Ive got two spare usb cables, one is for a Nokia phone, the other for charging a Bluetooth GPS Receiver, both of the USB Cables fit into the Garmin 250W's usb connector, but im affraid to connect it to my PC as i dont want to cause a big problem :P So im asking for your opinions before i do connect it to my PC! Would it be ok?
2. I might be wrong, but i heard there is a program made by Garmin which you run on your PC (Abit like Google Earth) and you plan a route, then download the route to your Garmin and away you go, does such a program exist? and will it work with my Garmin 250W?
3. Is it worth me signing upto "My Garmin" on Garmin.com? What benefits are there?
I know thats more than a couple of questions, but any help will be really appreciated!
Thanks alot! |

Thanks for that
I also have a house hold charging cable which was used to charge my bluetooth GPS dongle, its connector fits into the Garmin.
If i plugged this into the Garmin and then turned the plug on at the mains, would it charge my Garmin without a problem?
The plugs output power is...
Output - +5v 0.5A
Output Power 2.5W MAX
Thanks for the fast reply! |

When you connect the lead do you hear a sound? and does the Garmin start up and show the conmnection icon of the front? If so yes it will charge. |

Yup it makes a beep and then has a logo of a Garmin being connected to a PC
Ive also tested out the USB cable and that works to, it also charges from my PC (I didn't think it would do that)
Thanks |

Hi,
Yes phone/mp3 cables work fine...My Motorolla Razr one fits and charges etc. I dare not try my phone charger though.....
I signed up for MyGarmin...Only thing so far I can see of any use is the garage functions to download new vehicle icons (the spitfires quite good!!)..oh and the fact that it always tells me that I have no map updates......
Be interested to see if there is a program re PC route planning as I have 250W as well..... |
