Hi all
I am sure what I am after is answered in the forums somewhere but I cannot find it!!. I have installed the Speed Camera Database, should I put a tick in box that asks "only show on route" as I have left it empty but get notified of cameras well off my route. I thought in the general instructions it said to leave it unchecked. Also is it possible to use the device to alert to cameras without having a route planned? You sometimes know where you are going but still need to be notified of cameras. Thanks in advance for any replies.

The considered opinion is to leave this unticked. If you do tick it then it will only warn of cameras on route but more importantly it will only work if you have a route planned.
Leaving it unticked means it will operate at all times, route planned or not and although you will get detection for cameras in a wide 'zone' it's better than being caught out but at the end of the day the choice is yours and you can experiment.
Whilst you're here, have you installed any of our real voice warnings or the high quality icons? Links in my signature. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I wouldn't say it was the "considered option" just personal preference.
TICKED means less false warnings, but none at all if you don't set a route.
UNTICKED means lots more false alerts.
I always have the "Warn only when on route" TICKED, as I only ever drive around with a route set, and I prefer to have as few spurious alerts as possible (even though you will still get quite a few).
It really is up to you.... Try it both ways for a while! |

Hi Guys
Help again if possible!! Am I right in thinking that the POI files (Accomodation etc) are installed in the "map folder" in Tom Tom, the same folder as the speed camera files.
Thanks

Yes POI files are installed in exactly the same fashion except you don't set the alerts (unless you want to that is!). _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren
I think I have done something wrong. When I view the POI's on the TomTom it lists them all in alphabetical order but stops at"L" and then goes directly to ZOO. Have I tried to download too much?
Thanks

Hi Darren
Maybe I have downloaded the wrong files!! They are all individual. About 131 appearing on Tomtom plus the speed cameras on top. Looking at the downloaded folder it contains 516 files. I have a feeling I have done something stupid!!
Regards

There's a limit of around 169 POI categories on the current TomTom software; once you've exceeded this, the results can be a little unpredictable. Have a look in the map folder and count how many .ov2 files you have. Then decide which ones you can delete to bring yourself back within the limit, or considering redownloading some as combined categories (e.g. all ATMs in one file, rather than as individual categories).
Does anyone REALLY need more than 100 different POI categories? |
