So, now that the v810 maps are finally here providing x20 users with IQRoute data, does this data contain 24/7 data or does it only take into account if it's a workday or a weekend? When pre-planning routes without GPS reception the device doesn't ask for the time of day, but only on which day I will be travelling. But maybe the time resolution is smaller when creating a route with GPS reception? Does anyone know? Maybe an updated firmware is required to make full use of the new map data?
What I can see so far is that the routes created with IQ-routing switched on are better! A welcome improvement. The underlying map data seems to be VERY similar to the v720 map though. Have only discovered a few tiny changes in the area where I live. The speed limit data also contains a lot of errors, just like on the previous map. Let's hope that a new firmware version is released soon with some improvements of the MapShare input mechanism. |

Ok, since noone else has shed any light on this issue I might as well add some small findings. I still don't know if the v810 maps contain the IQ routes data with 5 minutes interval stated in the press release for the x40 devices. I've sent a question to TomTom support asking this. But, in any case ,an updated firmware will most likely be needed in order to make use of the new data. The new x40 device will apparently contain firmware from a new Navcore version referred to as 8.2, which probably has an updated routing engine making use of the new IQ routes data.
I'll let you know if I get any answer from TomTom. |

IQ data would really come into its own if there were finer subdivisions of time rather than just weekday or weekend. Is this going to happen for x20 or x30 units? |

I couldn't agree more! This enhanced data would really improve the accuracy of the routing. I sent a question to TomTom 3 days ago asking:
a) if the v810 maps contain this improved data
b) if the 8.010 application supports this new data, or if a firmware upgrade will be required
I received an answer yesterday indicating that they did either not understand my question or were not willing to share the information.
After observing the behaviour of my 720 after installing the new map, I can say that it does not take into account the time of the day. My guess is that the routing engine supplied with Navcore 8.2 will support the enhanced IQ Routes data. It will probably take a while for this firmware to become available for the x20/x30 units, but at some stage I'm sure this will happen. |
